Brown, City Clerk 949 - 644 -3005, (brown @city.newport- beach.ca.us SUBJECT: Unscheduled Vacancy on the Parks, Beaches and Recreation Commission RECOMMENDATION: 1. Declare a vacancy on the Parks, Beaches and Recreation Commission due to the resignation of Cris Trapp effective January 6, 2009. 2. Confirm the Mayor's appointment of and to serve on the Ad -Hoc Appointments Committee. 3. Direct the City Clerk to post and publish a Special Vacancy Notice requesting that applications be submitted by 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 29, 2009, and schedule the submission of the nominations to the Council on February 10, 2009 with the final appointment to be made on February 24, 2009. DISCUSSION: On December 23, 2008, the City Council received a letter of resignation from Cris Trapp from the Parks, Beaches and Recreation Commission effective on January 6, 2009. Ms. Trapp was appointed to a four -year term on the Parks, Beaches and Recreation Commission effective July 1, 2006. Her term expires on June 30, 2010, therefore an appointment will need to be made to fill her unexpired term. Pursuant to Council Policy A -2, I have prepared a Special Vacancy Notice for posting and publication of the unscheduled vacancy. As per the notice, applications will be accepted by the City Clerk's office until 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 29, 2009. At the close of the application period, I will forward the current applications on file, as well as any new applications, to the newly- appointed ad -hoc appointments committee for Unscheduled Vacancy on Parks, Beaches and Recreation Commission January 13, 2009 Page 2 them to review and conduct any necessary interviews. The two nominations made by the committee will be forwarded to the full Council for confirmation on Tuesday, February 10, 2009, with the final appointment scheduled for Tuesday, February 24, 2009.
