SUBJECT: Appointment of Charles McKenna to Environmental Quality Affairs
Committee (EQAC)
RECOMMENDATION:
Approve EQAC's recommendation to appoint Charles McKenna to the Committee in the
Environmental Expertise membership category.
DISCUSSION:
The Resolution establishing EQAC provides that there will be three members who have
knowledge of CEQA administration or environmental issues of concern to Newport
Beach. These members are to be appointed by the City Council from recommendations
from the Committee. There is currently one vacancy in this membership category. At
their meeting of January 26, 2009, EQAC voted unanimously to recommend the
Council's appointment of Charles McKenna to fill this vacancy. Mr. McKenna is an
attorney, and has represented cities and school districts. He is a member of the
Surfrider Foundation, Hills for Everyone, and the Los Angeles Conservancy, and was a
founding member of the Whittier Conservancy. His application is attached.
