SUBJECT: Purchase of Communication Suites for New Paramedic Vans
RECOMMENDATION:
Authorize the purchase of radios, mobile data computers, GPS trackers and
miscellaneous electronic equipment from several vendors for two new paramedic vans.
City Council approve Budget Amendment 09BA -OXX to transfer $29,800 from
Paramedic Reserve Fund (010 -3732) to 2340 -9300 and increasing expenditure
appropriations by $29,800 in 2340 -9300.
BACKGROUND:
The Fire Department will be placing two new paramedic vans in service in the coming
months. Originally the Department had planned to transfer the radios and mobile data
computers from the retiring paramedic vans. Some minor changes in the cab
configuration of the new vans complicate the use of existing equipment. In addition the
radios and mobile data computers are 4 -6 years old, and the high usage of the
equipment for emergency medical responses warrants replacement with new units. The
existing radios and mobile data computers will be used as spares for remaining fire
apparatus in case of outages or repair.
The Department requests City Council take the funds from Paramedic Reserve Funds
(010- 3732). The purchases will be made from Motorola, Panasonic, Geospatial
Technologies, and their authorized distributors.
Funding Availability:
Funds will come from existing Paramedic Reserve Funds.
