SUBJECT: Purchase of Scott Hush Air Compressor
RECOMMENDATION:
Award the purchase of Scott Hush Air Compressor to Allstar Fire Equipment, Inc. for the total cost of
$41,747.30.

To create realistic scenarios, our firefighters train in full personal protective equipment, including self -
contained breathing (SCBA's). The extensive use of SCBA's at the Training Facility has created logistic
difficulties in replacing empty SCBA bottles with full bottles. With our air refill compressor at Station #3,
fire companies either need to stop at Station #3 after training or our part time support aides need to
cycle between Station #3 and Training Facility to replace bottles. Neither solution is proving
satisfactory.
The Fire Department recommends installing a smaller air refill compressor at Station #7, thus allowing
air bottles to be refilled before the fire companies leave the Training Facility. This also gives the
department back -up air compressor when the main compressor is down for maintenance or repairs.
The Fire Department recommends the proposal from Allstar Fire Equipment for purchase and
installation of a Scott 6000 psi Hush Air Compressor for $41,747.30. This proposal provides the best
compressor, in terms of features and reliability for cost.
There was one other bid that came from a vendor identified as Bower. Bower's compressor was a
completely different compressor than the one offered by Allstar. After evaluating both compressors,
staff believed that the compressor from Allstar was more user friendly. Staff believed that personnel
with very little training would be able to use the Allstar compressor easier than the Bower compressor.
