This evening, the Newport Beach City Council will be considering the approval of the California
Coastal Commission's Fire Ring Plan under Item 28 on your agenda. I respectfully urge your
support for this well- vetted plan as a way to ensure our fire rings provide a safe and enjoyable
experience for visitors and residents alike.
As you may be aware, public support for the rings is widespread. The fire rings provide an
economical way for church groups, charities, families and friends to gather and enjoy Newport
Beach's beautiful coastline. My family, friends and staff have had numerous outings and meetings
at the very fire rings discussed in the Coastal Commission's Plan. I hope to see these traditions
continue.
By approving Item 28 you will be preserving this treasured destination in our community. I applaud
your action to take leadership on this important issue and urge your support for Item 28.
