SUBJECT: Council Decision to Dispense Holding the August 25th Regular City
Council Meeting
ISSUE:
Is the City Council in agreement to forego its regular August 250' City Council meeting in order
to provide a time period for the City Council and staff to take vacation time?
RECOMMENDATION:
Forego the regular August 25'" Council meeting.
DISCUSSION:
Background: August has become the most popular month to schedule vacations for families,
given the approach of the school year starting the following month. The City Manager believes
it would again be good for the whole organization to "go dark" the second meeting in August to
allow for vacations to be taken and to provide a break in the regular City Council meeting
schedule cycle.
The intense work load on both the City Council and City staff over this past year has had the
City Council tackling many important and time - consuming issues and staff juggling many
priorities and daily operational issues. Council subcommittee meetings and work coming out of
those meetings has been conducted at an unrelenting pace.
The City Manager believes there is no City business so critical that foregoing the August 25'"
City Council meeting will adversely affect important City business. While "going dark" for the
August 25'" City Council meeting would result in no regular City Council meeting between the
August 11°i and September 8'h regular City Council meetings, there is always the opportunity to
call and notice a special City Council meeting if the need arises.
Environmental Review: The City Council's approval of this Agenda Item does not require
environmental review.
Public Notice: This agenda item may be noticed according to the Brown Act (72 hours in
advance of the public meeting at which the City Council considers the item).
