IF MORE SPACE IS REQUIRED EASE ATTACH SEPARATE SHEET_) I am a very strong advocate of community service and feel that my background in leadership roles with various community and business organizations qualifies me to serve on The Newport Beach Library Board of Trustees. I am especially ir,,arested in service with the library as I have for many years been interested in education and other services offered by a quality library system. My work with Jim Wood's recent "Distinguished Speakers Series" has intensified my interest and desire to particapate to a greater extent in library activities and policy. Now that we have fine facilities, I feel the community needs to foster continued literacy of its citizens in a stimulating, interesting, and friendly environment. I have the time, am very willing to work hard, and would enjoy helping to continue to build our outstanding library system into even better central and branch centers for research, education, and enjoyment. I believe most all adults and children in our community cherish our library and I will devote my efforts to maintain this attitude. signature Dnt nug -20 -98 10:53P Patty McCormick 1 714 -760 -0414 APPLICATION FOR APPOINTIVE POSITION '98 AUG 21 A 7 :57 P.02 CITY Or NEWBORT BEA' 3300 Newport Boule•.ra: ivewport Beach, CA 926: CITY CLERK - 714- 644 -3C. As a resident of Newport Beach for the past 25 years, I have enjoyed many of the opportunities this community has afforded me. 1 feel it is now time to repay Newport Beach by volunteering my time and expertise as a member of the Libral-_y Board of Trustees. My experience as the Head Nurse of the cardiac intensive care unit at Hoag Hospital for 10 years provided me with strong organizational, time management and team building skills. Thcsc skills easily transitioned into my many volunteer activities. I have been actively involved in leadership, fundraising, program implementation, budget planning and evaluation for several not - for -profit corporations. As a published author, I appreciate and understand the role of our library in our personal lives and community. This institution recognizes cultural and ethnic diversity, has no gender bias and offers programs and services to all 1•csidcnts regardless of economic level. It is surely the brightest jewel in our "crown ". I am computer- literate and keenly aware of the ever - increasing influence of technology on our everyday lives. I want to help plan and implement a smooth transition from the traditional library of my childhood to the information highway for generations to come. As a member of the Board, I will actively work with other trustees, library staff, community leaders and the public to ensure the vitality and growth of our library services. We are currently challenged by decreasing public funds while at the same time trying to increase library programs and available technology. We must pursue the private sector and the community for support if we are to ensure this growth. I am certain my experience would be a beneficial addition to the Library Boa1•d of Trustees. I am qualified to serve on this Board based on my commitment to 1ny community, my record of contribution, my enthusiasm, my ability to communicate with and motivate people, my organizational and leadership skills and my willingness to work hard. I look forty w-d to this opportunity. Thank you for dour consideration of my application. Sincerely,
