TITLE: CITY COUNCIL'S REGULAR MEETING CALENDAR FOR 2012
ABSTRACT:
The City Council regular meeting calendar should be set by resolution annually.
RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt Resolution No. 2012 -1 relating to the City Council's 2012 meeting calendar.
FUNDING REQUIREMENTS:
There is no fiscal impact related to this item.
DISCUSSION:
The City's Charter reads in part as follows:
Section 407. Regular Meetings.
The City Council shall hold regular meetings at least twice each month at
such times as it shall fix by ordinance or resolution and may adjourn or re-
adjourn any regular meeting to a date and hour certain which shall be specified in
the order of adjournment and when so adjourned each adjourned meeting shall
be a regular meeting for all purposes. If the hour to which a meeting is adjourned
is not stated in the order of adjournment such meetings shall be held at the hour
for holding regular meetings. If at any time any regular meeting falls on a holiday
such regular meeting shall be held on the next business day.

The proposed Resolution sets the following regular meeting schedule for 2012:
January 10 and 24
February 7 and 21
March 13 and 27
April 10 and 24
May 8 and 22
June 12 and 26
July 10 and 24
August 14 (NOTE: The August 28 meeting is cancelled)
September 17 and 25
October 9 and 23
November 13 and 27
December 11 (NOTE: The December 25 meeting is cancelled)
ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW:
Staff recommends the City Council find this action is not subject to the California
Environmental Quality Act ( "CEQA ") pursuant to Sections 15060(c)(2) (the activity will not
result in a direct or reasonably foreseeable indirect physical change in the environment) and
15060(c)(3) (the activity is not a project as defined in Section 15378) of the CEQA
Guidelines, California Code of Regulations, Title 14, Chapter 3, because it has no potential
for resulting in physical change to the environment, directly or indirectly.
The agenda item has been noticed according to the Brown Act (72 hours in advance of the
meeting at which the City Council considers the item).

RESOLUTION NO. 2012 -1
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
NEWPORT BEACH RELATING TO ITS REGULAR MEETING
SCHEDULE FOR 2012.
WHEREAS, Section 407 of the City of Newport Beach's City Charter directs that the
City hold regular meetings at least twice each month; and
WHEREAS, notwithstanding Charter Section 407's meeting requirement; historically,
the months of August and December experience Council and staff member absences and
reduced legislative workloads due to the holidays. Thus, the second meeting in August and
December is cancelled to save City resources and improve overall efficiency; and
WHEREAS, the Charter also directs that the times and dates of the regular meetings
be set by Ordinance or Resolution; and
WHEREAS, planning for the 2012 calendar year obligates the City to adopt a 2012
Calendar early in the year.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Newport
Beach hereby determines as follows:
SECTION 1. The following is the schedule for City Council regular meetings in 2012:

SECTION 2. The time of the City Council regular meetings will be held at
7:00 p.m., or as otherwise scheduled due to the demand of business.
