POLICY STATEMENT FOR PARK LAND AC UISITI

The City Council - adopted Recreation & Open Space Ele nt for the provision
of neighborhood park sites throughout the community/is based on a standard
of two acres per 1,000 residents. To meet the nee of the present and
projected populations of the City of Newport Beac , it will be the policy
of the City Council to acquire park lands whenev9k practicable.
In addition, it will be the policy of the City Council to preserve and
acquire view sites, and to implement the adopted Master Plan of Bicycle
Trails. /
It will also be the policy of the City Council to accept dedication of
open space lands subject to individual merft review of the following
criteria:
1. Other open space in the immedi4 e area;
2. Esthetic factor -- does the property afford a unique view or
access; t
3. Quality and quantity of pulylic input;
4. Potential public injury fiom alternative usage;
5. Population segment to be served by the space;

6. Willingness and ability of local property owners to accept
care and maintenance;
7. Unique environmental,br ecological factors.
This policy is adopted in an/ effort to meet the recreational needs of the
citizens of Newport Beach and to provide open space for the environmental
improvements of the City of,&ewport Beach.
