PATRONS USE OF THE LIBRARIES
The Newport Beach Public Library is dedicated to providing an atmosphere
that encourages patron use of library services, materials, and facilities.
Accordingly, the library discourages disruptive behavior and /or loud
noise. Patrons whose behavior is interfering with legitimate library
business, may, at the discretion of Library staff, either be given a
warning or be directed to leave the library immediately.
Library patrons with concerns about a specific title in the collection
shall be provided with a copy of the Library's "Collection Development
Policy" and asked to complete the "Patron's Request for Evaluation" form.
Library staff shall evaluate the material, based on the "Collection
Development Policy" established by the Board of Library Trustees. A
recommendation shall be forwarded to the City Librarian who shall respond
in writing to the patron. Any unresolved concerns shall be referred to
the Board of Library Trustees for final decision.
Library patrons requesting specific titles be added to the collection will
be provided with a "Request for Book Purchase" form. Library staff shall
evaluate the request based on the "Collection Development Policy"
established by the Board of Library Trustees. Should the decision be made
not to purchase the requested material, the items will be ordered for the
patron through the Interlibrary Loan using national interlibrary loan
conventions.
An Attachment to this policy, dated February 1988, is "Patron's Request
For Evaluation of Library Resources."

PATRON'S REQUEST FOR EVALUATION OF LIBRARY RESOURCES
We appreciate your interest in the materials which have been selected for
inclusion in the collection of the Newport Beach Public Library. If you
have a concern about a specific item, we would appreciate your assistance

Branch Manager. The staff will evaluate the material and forward a
recommendation to the City Librarian.
