[BOX MUST BE CHECKED IF SUBMITTING ELECTRONICALLY] Signature Date May 16, 2012 ATTACHMENT TO ROBYN GRANT'S APPLICATION FOR APPOINTIVE POSITION CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH I am honored to have served the City of Newport Beach as an Arts Commissioner since 2005. After working closely with City officials, citizens and other community volunteers to produce arts and cultural programs for the City, I hope to continue to represent the City on the Board of Library Trustees or Civil Service Board. I have been Chair of the Arts Commission for the past four years; prior to that I acted as Vice Chair for two years and Secretary for one year. During my tenure, the Commission achieved a number of accomplishments. We regularly experience record attendance at our programs including the Annual Juried Art Show, Concerts in the Park, Shakespeare by the Sea, Lectures and Museum Tours. The Commission also led the City's largest community- funded public art project, the "McFadden Centennial Legacy Square," to commemorate the 100 -year anniversary of the City of Newport Beach, coordinated a collaboration with Orange County Museum of Art to curate an outdoor sculpture collection for the new Civic Center and secured for the City a collection of watercolors by a longtime Newport Beach resident along with a cash bequest of $50,000. For many years I have also been fortunate to volunteer for a number of civic, philanthropic and charitable organizations. This work provides me the opportunity to collaborate with local activists and leaders as well as assist communities in need. My projects have been varied, from spearheading capital campaigns to fund the arts, to providing pro bono legal services to non - profits, to hands on volunteer activities with local organizations. My legal experience includes a focus on general contract and real estate law while specializing in environmental law and land use planning. I look forward to employing my legal skills, commitment to community and experience as an Arts Commissioner to continue to serve the City of Newport Beach. I am a long time user of the Newport Beach Library in many capacities and anticipate bringing the same dedication to that Board as 'I employed on the Arts Commission to enhance the City's library programs and services. And my legal background and knowledge of the City provide me with the requisite skills to act as an effective member of the Civil Service Board. Dear Council Members; My biggest desire as a Arts Commissioner is educate about the importance of Art in an evolved society. My second focus is to help close the huge gap between the arts, government and the art business. That's why, for the last year, I am holding a monthly "Open Studio Salon' event in to give citizens of OC the opportunity to meet artists and further the communication between artist, art business and non - artist. To create new collectors and patrons of the arts in NB one must help eliminate the elusiveness of the Arts by promoting art that people can relate to and want to experience. In order to stimulate an interest in beauty and aesthetics, we need both, Classical Arts like "Shakespeare in the Park" but also interactive community projects like "Margaret River Cow Parade" and /or painting a public building with citizens participation like "Portraits of Hope ". I feel Newport Beach needs to focus on educating and actively exposing its citizens to as much art as possible while minimizing its dependence on city funds. The more Newport Beach is known for art, the more it will benefit financially and in image from a synergy with our surrounding cities Laguna Beach and Costa Mesa. My goal is to stimulate interest and involvement through awareness like a children's art steward ship program and hands on art projects. Thereby; we can create a future where one can look back to a rich Newport Beach Arts History. See more on www.michaellart.com Thank you for your consideration. [BOX MUST BE CHECKED IF SUBMITTING ELECTRONICALLY] Signature Date 5/4/2012 14 I first teamed about the Newport Beach City Arts Commission after meeting Ms. Jana Barbier while applying to exhibit my art at the Central Library. Because I was more focused on promoting my career as a painter at that time, I didn't take the time to learn about the Commission's function. Over the last 3 years of exhibiting my art in Newport Beach at the Central Library, City Hall, Centennial Celebration, and Celebrate Art OC, among other events, I became increasingly aware of the Commission's responsibilities and became acquainted with its members. After my involvement in the Imagination Celebration as a teacher /coach volunteer working with children, and receiving an invitation to make a presentation to the Commission, I began to consider the idea of Searing on the Commission. Assisting the Commission appeals to me primarily due to my strong belief in the positive attributes of the arts. Having been raised in Vienna, Austria, I possess a unique background and perspective, which I believe will be an asset to the Commission. I was exposed to the world of art at an early age through my uncle, Adolf Frohner, a world- renowned artist, and his peers. In addition to being an artist, I have a 20-plus year involvement in the television and entertainment industry, which further qualifies me to serve. These experiences have provided me with, not only a distinctly different viewpoint from most Newport residents, but the ability to motivate people, regardless of socio - economic status, to successfully accomplish any given goal. Growing up in his home with its collection of art by his uncle, the famous Austrian painter, Adolf Frohner, and meeting his uncle's peers (i.e., Wolfgang Hutter, Arik Brauer, Ernst Fuchs, etc.) taught Michaell the power of Abstract. 41 moved to Southern California approximately 20 years ago at the age of 26. After I was unable to locate artwork that appealed to me for my new home in 1994, 1 took up painting and fell in love with the process and the powerful results." 17 Austrian American Artist Michaell has been selected as one of the most interesting artists. Michaell has been selected by Orange Coast Magazine as one of the most interesting up and coming Orange County artists. He is featured in the magazine's September 2006 Arts & Entertainment issue. m Michaell at his last exhibition at Sandstone Gallery in Laguna Beach, CA Michaell Magrutsche's art career began as a struggle to find artwork to hang in his Newport Beach home. "I've always been involved in creative endeavors, but it was the lack of art that appealed to me while decorating my new home that inspired me to begin painting," he says. The native Austrian now has several of his own pieces that he rotates through his home, which is also his working studio. "I need this reflection because it uplifts me and keeps me confident in my ability," he adds. Magrutsche specializes in "liminal abstract art, what he calls the space between abstract and concrete. He credits his uncle the famous Austrian painter Adolf Frohner, with teaching him the power of abstract. He says, "I want the color and design in my art to grab you, engage you and seduce you into getting lost in its content." Art forces me to focus on what is 'more real,' such as beauty and nature. To me, creating art is my job. However, it is primarily a sacred process, which continually gives me a greater insight into who and how I am. My goal as an artist is to bring others a sense of joy and inspiration, similar to that which I experience with this 'soul food' called art." Michaell Magrutsche Michaelli- C Ortemoora ry Art ellart.com 21 my inspiration: "I am inspired when something different draws my attention. Not different for different's sake, but different in being creative, or fresh in a new way. Today, when I enter a room, I want to feel a painting. I want its color and design to grab me, engage me and seduce me into getting lost in its content. I' love to get caught up in the inexplicable power of colors and shapes, which evoke a range of emotions in me. I prefer to paint in the abstract to explore an unknown content without boundaries. In addition, I sometimes place mundane objects into surreal settings because it captures my mind and interest. Like most artists, the question of "What is art ?" was continuously on Michaeli's mind. Michaell finally arrived at a definition that made the most sense to him. "Art is what inspires," meaning uplifting and upbeat. "I believe I am successful in creating art without catharsis, since my recent pieces were most uplifting even though my wife was battling cancer." I love colors and find their vibrancy and unusual combinations emotionally most rewarding. What I have learned from renowned artist and collectors is that one's appreciation for a piece of art should in no way be diminished or minimized by one's consideration for where the piece would be displayed. I believe that a work of art must be capable of standing on its own, in which case it fits in any surrounding." Over the years, Michaell's work has evolved into three avenues of expression: exploring the liminal: Michaeli's primary inspiration falls into the category, 'The Liminal - The Space In Between Abstract And Concrete.' Typically, viewers are captured by the unique organic shapes and colors of these pieces, resulting in their search for either a concrete or an abstract image. One can often turn the pictures in this group in any direction providing a different abstract (i.e., 'Jumpy,' jumping from abstract to concrete). images from the subconscious: "I have to be in an open frame of mind, typically when I wake up in the middle of the night, to capture the flow of creativity which comes over me. This category consists of ink drawings which I later complete in mixed media." surreal themes - off - shapes & colors: "This expression of my artwork, mostly commissioned pieces, is most challenging in balancing attention, naTvete and artistic value. In my 'theme' pictures, I like to bring out the innocence and love of my 'magical child.' I also take pleasure in showing the mysticism of certain scenes intermingled with unfamiliar objects and unusual colors to evoke a mind -soul play." The public spaces of a -business are an extension of that company's image. Each time a prospective customer enters your lobby, reception area or corporate conference room, an almost immediate impression of your business is created. Because such first impressions can be so critical to your company's image, the appropriate message must be conveyed. The proper utilization of art can serve as an important tool in enhancing your image and personalizing your public spaces The art displayed in your business should make a statement that your company is modern, open- minded, and creative. It should create an uplifting effect on the workplace and demonstrate a human touch. This can be accomplished by displaying eye- catching, engaging and bold artwork. Unlike the typical business environment, art can be utilized to express individuality and differentiate you from other companies. In the majority of businesses today, art has been relegated to the same status in the decor as that of a lampshade or the drapes. Your art should attract your visitor's attention, but not be viewed as an extravagant or ego- driven trophy. By emphasizing a bold piece of art, your visitor will receive an enhanced image of you and your company, and they will be more prone to remember your business in a favorable light. Today's method of displaying art in businesses is outdated. Most art is exhibited ineffectively, thereby missing the potential opportunity for image enhancement. Businesses spend millions of dollars establishing a brand and an image, but often ignore the message conveyed by the artwork displayed in their public spaces. Therefore, the value of this important message space is diminished and their art is reduced to the basic function of wall covering. Most corporate decors are bland and leave your visitors with the same vague impression they receive at most other businesses. 31 Since the ax ige person forms an impressic Df you and /or your business in approximately two seconds, when a client or customer enters your office, he rates your business conscious and unconscious very quickly. The more attention you devote to your business environment's design scheme, the greater the value of the message communicated about you and your company. Although art is a familiar sight in the workplace, designers generally use it as a mere component in their overall design. Since art is a personal preference, relinquishing control to the interior designer, sacrifices an opportunity to enhance your company's image. Art should be displayed as a focal point of your decor and should be selected based on its stimulating, thought - provoking aspects. Art should be capable of standing on its own and it should make the design visible, instead of the design hiding the art. Your art will then be noticed for its own unique qualities and not viewed as an accenting element. Art should serve as more than a diversion from the less pleasant visible aspects of your office, such as computer cables. By displaying bold art, you freshen your office atmosphere. Properly displayed art can shift your guests and employees out of their daily monotony, and offer them a new outlook. You should display thought - provoking art, which can also stimulate creative thinking and initiate conversation. By personalizing your art choices, you demonstrate versatility and an open mind to new ideas. The art you select can be integrated into your company's overall branding /marketing efforts, and should reflect your personal values and ideals. Art can make a creative statement and express your unique point of view. Through your personalization, your visitors will leave your place of business with a deeper recollection of who you are. Therefore, you should participate in your art acquisitions to ensure that a positive image and personal touch is conveyed. CEOs, your participation in your company's art acquisition is required. Michaell-& Con to m o Or. I Arl Mlchaell Magrutsche michaellart_com 32 Los Angeles Times March 20, 2006 Abstract art that's upbeat Michaell Magrutsche aims to inspire with his abstract work at Newport Beach Central Library. By Kathleen Stinson, Kathleen.Stinson @latimes.com Michaell Magrutsche knows he can't compete with nature. The abstract painter eschews representational art because even the best painting of a horse can never compete with a real horse. He likes abstract art because it involves the viewer and is proactive. "It's a lost cause to paint nature," Magrutsche said. "Michaell's Upbeat Abstracts," a'group of acrylic paintings on display at Newport Beach Central Library shows a developed sense of art by a second- generation abstract painter. Magrutsche, who was born in Vienna, Austria, grew up exposed to the art of his uncle, Adolf Frohner, a famous Austrian abstract painter. Despite the strong influence, Magrutsche said he found his own way. He believes art should inspire and uplift. "These days when I enter a room, I want to feel a painting -- I want its color and design to grab me," Magrutsche said. "I am not an elitist artist -- either you like it or you don't." 33 He likes to paint what he calls "liminal" abstracts, which means the viewer interprets the space between the lines and brings something of themselves to the painting. "I would like my paintings to stimulate the viewer in a way that his or her imagination is triggered to fill in the blanks, thereby creating an interaction with the artwork and playing with the unfilled spaces in a myriad of possibilities," he said. He also believes a painting should stand on its own, not the backdrop for a new sofa. He said he's seen a painting by Picasso in a baroque -style apartment and in the most modern of apartment decor. Either place the Picasso is well placed. The artist uses bold colors and simple forms. "The color in a painting should grab you," he said. "I am inspired when something grabs my attention. i find vibrant color and special color combinations most rewarding." The show runs through March 31. How we have lost sight of art's purpose. by Michaell Magrutsche ©2007 Have you ever passed up an opportunity to purchase a piece of art you love only because you couldn't decide where you would display it? Maybe you felt it would clash with your decor, or that it was not in proportion to your space. Conversely, have you ever acquired a painting that you were indifferent towards simply because you envisioned it fitting into the decor? Sadly, the acquisition of art has degenerated into this either /or decision based upon a piece's eventual display site. Visual art must be capable of standing on its own. A piece of art should be an extension or expression of one's self and, therefore, fit anywhere. Artwork should have a profound meaning to you personally, or should touch your soul. If you purchase art that does not meet these criteria, then it is simply relegated to the status of one of the components of your interior design scheme, like a lampshade or the drapes. If you truly love a certain piece, you should never have to consider how it would fit into your decor. Buying art to blend with the decor will not only eventually bore you, but does a disservice to the artist who wants his pieces prominently displayed. Artists and art collectors, worldwide, rarely ask themselves where to display a canvas. They will hang a painting wherever it maximizes their viewing pleasure. Collectors' tastes in art change, just like their preferences in automobiles. They go through different phases with each: artists, styles, or schools of art; and SUVs, sports cars, or luxury sedans. 'ell Over the past few decades, the relationship between buyer and art has diminished. People are acquiring art to either satisfy their egos or as an investment. They focus on the "hot" artist of the day in order to flaunt their status, or they view their acquisition as a commodity with an eye towards appreciation. This results in many purchasers failing to appreciate the wonderful properties and intrinsic values that art possesses. So, the next time you consider a work of art, do not ask ,yourself where it will fit. If a painting has an effect on you, display it with abandon. Remind yourself that you are the custodian of a sliver of someone's soul expression to be handed down for someone else's enjoyment. Let it serve as a reflection of who you are and, above all, enjoy it! Michaell Magrutsche is a Newport Beach artist. His current exhibition, "Michaell's Art in Public Spaces — Transforming Public Spaces With Art Versus Decor," is being held at the Newport Beach City Hall from November 21, 2006 through March 7, 2007. In 1988, Magruische was approached by Hollywood producer Robert Evans ( "Chinatown,' "The Cotton Club ") to invest in an international television project. His efforts culminated in a book which he hopes to com- plete this summer. "Its essentially an emotional language that everyone can relate to," he says. Leaders need to be able to facilitate people and processes in order to provide the best leadership possible. Good leadership involves both supportive and directive behaviors from leaders. A strong ethical basis is critical for elected and appointed leaders at all levels of a community. Good leadership encourages input from all levels and treats people and their ideas with respect and dignity. As a member of this community for over thirty years, I ask you to consider my training and experience and desire to serve this community and recognize this as an opportunity to appoint someone who has a long term goal to serve this community in the best possible way, utilizing her acquired expertise, who is a proven role model and exemplifies the highest level of integrity. 45 Submit by Email FOR OFFICE USE ONLY Residence Distric) No Verified by RECEIVED iuli Mw11 -7 Fei 4 3' OFFICE OF Print Form CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH 3300 Newport Boulevard Newport. We engaged in a complete and comprehensive review of all the CSB Rules, ordinances, charter provisions and MOU's. Many of these regulations dated from the 1950's and 60's. They were not indexed, confusing and often contradictory. We recommended streamling. That has made the regulations more understandable to the departments and the employees. At the request of the NBPMA; in 2009, we undertook a year long investigation into the police promotional process and compliance with Council policy F20 regarding rehiring retired employees. , The evidence and the report remain confidential, I believe the interested parties were satisfied that our investigation was thourough and fair. In 2010 and 2011, 1 served on the interview panel that led to the City Manager's selection of Scott Poster as our Fire Chief. I have judged both open and closed disciplinary hearings and have been told that my rulings were accepted as fair to all parties. Finally, I have fought hard and sucessfully to maintain the independance of the CSB. This assures that due process is respected and our hearings are fair and have the appearance of fairness. I am an attorney with 26 years experience representing the County of Orange and its employees in all manner of tort and civil litigaiton. I have served as an arbitrator, and a judge pro tem hearing civil, small claims and settlement conferences. I take pride in my professional reputation as a hard worker and fair hearing officer. , Now that I am mostly retired, I have time and look forward to another 4 years serving the City on the CSB. One of the most urgent and important duties of the Civil Service Board is to hear and adjudicate appeals to disciplinary actions taken against city employees. This formal quasi - judicial process is a huge responsibility for each of the five Civil Service Board Members. A. fair and honestjudgment must be made because the interests of an employee's career must be carefully weighed and balanced with the ability of city management to impose fair and appropriate discipline. I respectfully submit that with my business ownership background, participation in leadership positions in civic and volunteer activities, and with my long law enforcement experience, coupled with 12 years experience on the Civil Service Board during which I have participated in many difficult hearings and ruled on a number of thorny issues, I would provide valuable continuity and experience to the Board and to the City of Newport Beach. [BOX MUST BE CHECKED IF SUBMITTING ELECTRONICALLY] Signature Date May 16, 2012 54 ATTACHMENT TO ROBYN GRANT'S APPLICATION FOR APPOINTIVE POSITION CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH I am honored to have served the City of Newport Beach as an Arts Commissioner since 2005. I am a long time user of the Newport Beach Library in many capacities and anticipate bringing the some dedication to that Board as I employed on the Arts Commission to enhance the City's library programs and services. And my legal background and knowledge of the City provide me with the requisite skills to act as an effective member of the Civil Service Board. There is no aspect of Newport Beach about which I have more passion than our harbor. I have a genuine interest in maintaining and sustaining the harbor as the center of culture for Newport Beach. Not unlike Sydney Australia, a city in which I have also been privileged to live and work, our harbor is inextricably woven into what makes Newport the special place it is. My intent is to put my experience both here and abroad to work ensuring that the harbor can safely and effectively be enjoyed to the highest/best purposes and further enhanced and improved. My active use of the harbor includes Thursday night Beer Can races, taking friends /colleagues on a harbor cruise at Holiday time, coaching my God Children as they learned how to sail, renting an electric boat for a Mother's Day excursion, using the new Rhine Wharf and adjacent restaurants, paddling through the Upper Bay Nature Preserve. I am one of the most active recreational harbor users. Over the past 25 years I have averaged in excess of 100 days per year on the water. That average over the past 5 years has increased to more than 140 days, a source of particular pride. I have lived in Newport Beach for nine (9) years now and would like to get more Involved with city operations and government. I chose to apply for this commission for a variety of reasons. Being younger and active, I have participated in a number of the city's recreational activities including seasonal softball leagues and running in the the annual CDM SK I also enjoy the city's beaches, and as a resident of CDM I spend many days swimming and fishing at the CDM state beach, as well as the beaches on the peninsula. I managed regular season and all -star little league teams In Irvine for many years after graduation from college. As a result, I believe in (and appreciate) the value of well maintained fields and parks, and the benefits those parks provide to the children (and adults) in Newport Beach. As an owner of two properties in Corona Del Mar, I also value the time, money and effort that is spent to keep our city streets, parks, beaches in the best condition possible -thus preserving the value of our properties. I have graduate and undergraduate degrees in finance, and have spent more than 20 years in financial planning functions for large corporations. I believe this experience would prove valuable as this commission will need to consider annual budgets in making recommendations to City Council and City Manager. Include any special qualifications you have which are particularly appropriate to the position for which you are applying. Following graduation from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering I lived and worked in Los Angeles and San Diego Counties. In 20051 moved to Newport Beach. As a professional Civil Engineer I have worked with dozens of municipalities, counties, states, and agencies having jurisdiction in the drafting, submission, and review of projects for their communities. In my nine years of experience I have gained an appreciation for the work and oversight of agency planning departments in reviewing plans submitted for approval. I understand the roles and occasionally competing objectives of community planners, developers, architects, engineers, and contractors in delivering a project that meets the needs of the community. Of particular interest and concern to me is the philosophy and methods communities adopt in arranging neighborhoods, traffic patterns, densities, and resources to efficiently serve the lifestyles of their citizens. The role of planning commissions-in defining goals, setting zoning standards, and diligently guiding development is a significant influencer on quality of life. And commission decisions have ongoing implications for the allocation of city revenues and taxpayer resources. I would like to use my interest in community planning and my experience as a civil engineer to serve as a member of the Newport Beach Planning Commission. My objective as a Commissioner would be good stewardship of community resources and to be a positive influence on quality of life. I would like to serve again on the Planning Commission in order to do my part to assure that Newport Beach continues to be a living environmentfor its residents and a vibrant commercial center for its businesses. It is my view that the Planning Commission exists to discover facts, refine issues, interpret and apply existing City Ordinances and carry out established policies of the City Council with respect to land use matters which come before the Planning Commission. In other words, it is a technical body, not a policy making or political body, I have years of experience in the position of Planning Commissioner and was involved in the every aspect of the General Plan update process in 2005 -2006. Because of my legal background and my work experience, I am also very familiar with the California Environmental Quality AcL Accordingly, I would be able to "hit the ground running" Lastly, assuring that all sides to contentious issues have an opportunity to have their side of a debate thoroughly heard and considered is an Important aspect of deliberations of bodies such as the Planning Commission. As Chairman of the Civic Center and Park Design Committee, I believe I encouraged and readily accepted input from all sides and that even those whose views were ultimately not persuasive to the Committee were satisfied that their concerns were seriously considered. At the request of the NBPMA, in 2009, we undertook a year long investigation into the police promotional process and compliance with Council policy F20 regarding rehiring retired employees. The evidence and the report remain confidential, I believe the interested parties were satisfied that our investigation was thourough and fair. In 2010 and 2011, 1 served on the interview panel (hat led to the City Manager's selection of Scott Poster as our Fire Chief. [BOX MUST BE CHECKED IF SUBMITTING CTRQ. ICALLY] Signature I Date MAY 15, 2012 William W. Bivens In addition to earning my BA with a major in Industrial Relations at the University of Arizona, I have more than 35 years of practical experience. .I worked in several very structured wage, salary and job -grade organizations. I participated in and. led many task forces which focused on re- organizations, evaluation design, position grading and salary structure. At Chrysler Corporation, my experience included both domestic and international assignments. Functional responsibility ranged from headquarters, field, manufacturing and sales; for 2 years I managed Chrysler's operations in Australia. At Nissan Motors, I was in both field/regional assignments and national/headquarter roles. was SVP of Nissan Motor Acceptance, the financing arm of the company, and lead the field operations which included a 650 person call center. My work has been in both union and non -union settings. I understand and agree with the need for uniform, equitable application of job structure and compensation while also appreciating the nuances and real differences which must be considered. As shown on my application, I served on the inaugural Laguna Hills Traffic Commission. Additionally, the years I spent as a volunteer at the LA County Sherriff s Department court house, exposed me to the scale, scope, latent, dedication and challenges of local government. During the past 5 years I have supported my wife who had an extremely demanding, high - profile position. I managed our investments, maintenance of homes on both coasts and have consulted with my son who now owns 5 automotive dealerships in the Tacoma area. I have owned and maintained a home or condominium in Newport Beach since 1996; first at 2120 E. Oceanfront, then 120 36`" Street and now, 126 Via Koron. We have been full time residents since June 2011. We have enjoyed and love this community and feel blessed to live here. I truly appreciate the importance and necessity for city employees to be properly and fairly recognized and compensated. The city employees are key to delivering the quality and array of services desired by existing residents and to attract targeted commerce for future growth. Include any special quallflcations you have which are particularly appropriate to the position for which you are applying, One of the most urgent and important duties of the Civil Service Board is to hear and adjudicate appeals to disciplinary actions taken against city employees. This formal quasi - judicial process is a huge responsibility for each of the five Civil Service Board Members. A fair and honest Judgment must be made because the interests of an employee's career must be carefully weighed and balanced with the ability of city management to impose fair and appropriate discipline. In successfully growing and operating a small business I have learned valuable management and people skills that would be both applicable and useful in my continued service as a Civil Service Board member, Prior to my retirement I served for 47 years as a Reserve L.A. County deputy sheriff, state certified and authorized to work street patrol. I served in all reserve ranks from deputy to reserve chief with responsibility for 620 reserve deputies. This experience has given me insight into the interests and concerns of civilian and safety personnel, from those of line employees to those of executive management. The Commission also led the City's largest community - funded public art project, the "McFadden Centennial Legacy Square," to commemorate the 100 -year anniversary of the City of Newport Beach, coordinated a collaboration with Orange County Museum of Art to curate an outdoor sculpture collection for the new Civic Center and secured for the City a collection of watercolors by a longtime Newport Beach resident along with a cash bequest of $50,000. I am a long time user of the Newport Beach Library in many capacities and anticipate bringing the same dedication to that Board as I employed on the Arts Commission to enhance the City's library programs and services. And my legal background and knowledge of the City provide me with the requisite skills to act as an effective member of the Civil Service Board. Thank you for considering my application.
