Wilkinson seconded by Trustee H. C. Sloan and carried, the renewal of the garbage contract with Harry ',lard was referred to the Street Superintendent for report. On motion of Trustee L. S. FTilkinson seconded by Trustee H. C. Sloan and carried, the majority and minority reports of the Advertising Committees of the Chambers of Commerce were referred to the Committee of the Whole for consideration and report. On motion of Trustee H. C. Sloan seconded by Trustee L. S. ' ViTilkinson and carried, the City Clerk was instructed to write some automobile dealers in regard to the relative strength between the steel and wooden wheels foie our fire truck. On motion of Trustee L. S. Wilkinson seconded by Trustee Conrad Richter and carried, that demands No. 609 to 780 inclusive having been signed and approved by the Fimance Cormnittee were allowed and warrants to be drawn for same. On motion of Trustee I;. C. Sloan seconded by Trustee Conrad Richter and carried, the meeting adjourned to 7:30 o'clock P. '., on Ir,onday, November 13, 1922. The Board of Trustees of the City of Newport Beach met in regular adjourned session at 7 :30 o'clock P. 1. on above date. The meeting was called to order by President J. J. Schnitker. The roll was called showing the full Board present. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. The communications were read and referred to the proper order of business. ORDINANCE NO. 218, entitled as follows: "An Ordinance of the Board of Trustees of the City of Newport Beach, declaring that a certain lot owned by said City, shall be used for street purposes and accepting a certairi street in said City, as a public street thereof, and designating the name by which such street shall be known and called and establishing the grade of said street," came up for final action, was read and considered; the roll was called and the Ordinance passed by the vote of the following named members of the Board of Trustees: Ayes, Trustees J. J. Schnitker, h.. C. Sloan, Geo. P. ':Jilson, Conrad Richter, L. S. Wilkinson. Noes, Trustees None. Absent, Trustees None. Ordinance ho. 218 having been passed by the vote of two- thirds and more of all the members of the Board of Trustees, was signed and approved by the President thereof. ORDINANCE '.O. 219 "Calling a special election for the submission to the qualified electors of the City of Newport Beach, Ordinance I ?o. 216," was taken up for final consideration, the roll was called and the Ordinance passed by the following vote: Ayes, Trustees J. F•lilkinson introduced an Ordinance permitting the Pacific Electric Railway Co. to remove a spur track on Bay Avenue and repealing Ordinance No. 19. The ordinance was ordered filed, read, considered, designated Ordinance No. 220 and referred to the City Attorney. Trustee Geo. P. I'iilson introduced a Resolution amending Section 2 of Resolution No. 203 of the City of Newport Beach. The Resolution was ordered filed, read, considered, designated Resolution No. 209, the roll was called and the Resolution passed by the following vote: Ayes, Trustees J. J. Schnitker, H. C. Sloan, Geo. P. '..ilson, Conrad Richter, L. S. Wilkinson. Noes, Trustees None. Absent, Trustees 'done. The City Engineer made his report on the bids received for constructing a bridge across the Santa Ana River, and on motion of Trustee Geo. P. Wilson seconded by Trustee u; C. Sloan, all bids were rejected except the one from the Mercereau Bridge 8. Construction Co. and anv checks accompan -ying same to be returned; the President and Clerk being authorized to sign the contract after the bonds have been approved by the City Attorney, on the following vote: Ayes, Trustees J. J. Schnitker, H. C. Sloan, Ueo. P. Wilson, Conrad Richter, L. S. Flilkinson. Noes, Trustees None. Absent, Trustees None. On motion of Trustee Geo. P. Wilson seconded by Trustee Conrad Richter and carried, the City Clerk was instructed to obtain the dimensions of the wheels for the fire truck and to get prices on the steel wheels. On motion of.Trustee Conrad Richter seconded by Trustee Geo.P. Ylilson and carried, ?100.00 was set aside out of the advertising fund to be used by the Balboa Chamber of Commerce in advertising for one month in the Santa Ana and Huntington Beach papers. On motion of Trustee L. S. Wilkinson seconded by Trustee H. C. Sloan, -,100.00 was set aside out of the advertising fund for the purpose of getting out a small pamphlet to distribute at the Realtors meeting at Santa Ana in December, 500 with lead pencils attached, by the following vote: Ayes, Trustees J. J. Schnitker, H. C. Sloan, Geo. P. Wilson. Conrad Richter, L. S. Vlilkinson. Noes, Trustees None. Absent, Trustees None. On motion of Trustee Conrad Richter seconded by Trustee H.C. Sloan, r ?150.00 was set aside out of the advertising; fund for a window display advertisement in the Pacific : Electric b -gilding in Los Angeles, 2:r. R. C. 'Hoerz to arrange for same at once, by the following vote: Ayes, Trustees J. J. Schnitker, Ii. C. Sloan, Geo. P. Flilson, Conrad Richter, L. S. 'Rilkinson. Noes, Trustees None. Absent, Trustees done. On motion of Trustee II, C. Sloan seconded by Trustee Geo. P. Wilson and carried, the garbage contract with Harry hard was extended for one year on the same basis as last year, the contract expiring on ?;ovember 5, 1923. It appearing that the words and figures "Resolution No. 201," concerning the issuance and sale of the 5 ?60,000.00 par value of bonds for iU nicipal Improvement District No. 2 of the City of 1:e.rpor't- Beach is in error, and the number of the Resolution is 203, on motion of Trustee II. C. Sloan seconded by Trustee Ueo. P. Wilson the Clerk was instructed to correct the minutes of September 18, 1922 to read 203 on the following vote: Ayes, Trustees J. J. Schnitker, H. C. Sloan, Ueo. P. !7ilson, Conrad Richter, L. S. '.'lilkinson. Noes, Trustees None. Absent, Trustees intone. It was moved by Trustee Ueo. P. Wilson seconded bir Trustee Conrad Richter and carried, that the assessment diagram for'the improve- ment of certain portions of Ocean Avenue contemplated by Resolution of Intention No. 156 presented by the City Engineer, be approved. Flilson and carried, the President and Clerk was authorized to sin in the name of the City all pertinent resolutions that appear to be necessary in the furtherance of the harbor. This being the day and hour set for opening bids for the sale of the L:unicipal Gas Distributing System, the Board in open session opened, examined and declared all sealed bids received for same, which were Southern Counties Gas Co. - - - - - - - - - ;,44,000.00 The bid was discussed and on motion of Trustee H. C. Sloan seconded by Trustee Geo. P. Wilson, the bid was accepted by the following vote: Ayes, Trustees J. J. Schnitker, H. C. Sloan, Geo. P. Wilson, Conrad Richter, L. S. Wilkinson. Noes, Trustees hone. Absent, Trustees None. The application of the Southern Counties Gas Co. of California for a franchise to lay, construct, maintain, use and operate pipe lines, mains and conduits, in, under and along the streets, alleys, lanes, highways and public places of and in the City of Newport Beach, for the purpose of carrying and distributing gas to be used for heat, light, power and other purposes, for a term of forty years, was presented and read, and upon motion made by Trustee H. C. Sloan, duly seconded and carried, IT IS ORDERED that the Clerk of this Board be, and he is hereby directed to cause to be published in the Newport Nevis, a weekly newspaper published in the City of Newport Beach, California, a notice of sale of said franchise, in the manner and according to the provisions of lair applying thereto. That the date for receiving bids shall be, and the same is hereby fixed at January 29, 1923 before the hour of 7:30 o'clock P. I.t., and the amount of the penal bond to be given by the successfv ! bidder is hereby fixed at the sum of ;,2500.00. ;c.
