CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH <br />City Council Minutes <br />Regular Meeting <br />March 8, 1999 - 7:00 p.m. <br />— 4:00 p.m. [Refer to separate minutes] <br />CLOSED SESSION <br />CLOSED SESSION REPORT PRESENTED - None <br />RECESSED AND RECONVENED AT 7:00 P.M. FOR REGULAR MEETING <br />ROLL CALL <br />Present: Adams, Glover, Thomson, Debay, Ridgeway, Noyes, Mayor O'Neil <br />Absent: None <br />Pledge of Allegiance - Council Member Adams. <br />Invocation by Dr. Richard Todd of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church. <br />• Presentation by the California Department of Conservation, Division of Oil, <br />Gas and Geothermal Resources. Richard Manuel presented the City with a <br />certificate for its "Two Consecutive Years of Outstanding Lease Maintenance of the <br />West Newport Oil Field ". <br />Without objection, Mayor O'Neil requested that Item S27 be brought up at <br />this time. <br />S27. ANNOUNCEMENT OF APPOINTMENT OF CITY MANAGER AND <br />APPROVAL OF EMPLOYMENT AGREEMENT. <br />Mayor O'Neil reported that Council unanimously selected Homer Bludau, <br />current City Manager of Coronado, as the new City Manager and that his <br />first day is May 3. <br />Motion by Mayor O'Neil to appoint Homer Bludau as the new City <br />Manager and approve the employment agreement. <br />Mr. Bludau stated that Newport Beach sets a standard for quality of life that <br />is unsurpassed and that he is looking forward to preserving and enhancing <br />the City where possible.
