During the Council meeting of February 13th, the
City Council adopted a motion to disallow first reading of
the ordinance repealing the visitor service fee and requested
the matter be returned to the City Council on May 8, 1989 for
further consideration. Pursuant to this directive, the item
will appear on the evening agenda of May 8th.
The agreement that this City has with the Conference
and Visitor's Bureau requires the Bureau to prepare a marketing
plan and annual budget on or before April 1st of each year.
This budget, after being approved by the Board of Directors
of the Bureau, is then submitted to the City Council for review
and approval. Inasmuch as April 1st is just thirty days prior
to the May meeting, it is believed appropriate to notify the
Conference & Visitor's Bureau that they should submit their
budget and marketing plan at the May 8, 1989 meeting. With
this schedule the Council can review the basic concept of
whether the ordinance should or should not be introduced repealing
the service fee, and also consider the marketing plan and budget,
if appropriate. Unless the Council objects, I will notify the
Conference & Visitor's Bureau of this proposed change in the
date for submittal of their budget and marketing plan.
