HomeMy WebLinkAbout148 - System for Numbering Houses & Buildingsr i r 4 ORDINANCE NO. 148, AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH, ESTABLISH'- ING A SYSTEM FOR THE NUM -I BERING OF HOUSES AND OTHER BUILDINGS IN SAID CITY. The Board of Trustees of the City of Newport Beach do ordain as fol- lows: Section 1. A system by which all houses and other buildings in the City of Newport Beach shall be designated by numbers is hereby established, and the designation of any house or other building in said City by number, other than as is herein provided for, is de. dared to be unlawful and prohibited. Section 2. All streets in the City of Newport Beach which extend east or in an easterly direction from the east- 1 erly line of First St., and of Island Ave., public streets in the C(ty of east Newport Beach, or which extend i or in an easterly direction and which commence and terminate east of said .streets, although they do not connect; with or intersect the easterly line of,� First St. or of Island Ave., shall be designated East (followed by the name of the respective street). All streets in the City of Newport; Beach which extend west or in a west- I erly direction from the westerly line of First St. and of Island Ave., public streets in the City of Newport Beach, or which extend west or in a westerly direction and which commence and terminate west of said streets, al- though they do not connect with or in.i tersect the westerly line of First St. or of Island Ave., shall be designated West (followed by the name of the respective street). Section 3. There shall be and is hereby assigned to each block of lots one hundred numbers. Each lot front- ing upon any street in the City of New- port Beach and which lot has a width of frontage of 30 ft. or less, shall be designated by and is assigned one number. All lots fronting upon any street which lot has a width of front- age of more than 30 ft. shall be des- ignated by and is assigned one num- ber for each 30 ft. of frontage or frac- tion thereof. Section 4. On all streets which ex- tend east or in an easterly direction from the east line of First St. and Is- land Ave., as in this Ordinance de- scribed, the numbering shall com- mence with the number one hundred at the first lot east of the east line of First St. and Island Ave., and the even numbers shall be upon the north side and the odd numbers upon the south side of said streets. On all streets which extend west or in a westerly direction from the west line of First St. and Island Ave., as in this Ordinance described, the number- ing shall commence with the number one hundred at the first lot west of the west line of First St. and Island Ave., and the even numbers shall be Upon the north side and the odd num- bers upon the south side of said streets. Upon all streets in the City of Newport Beach which extend north or in a northerly direction from the shore of the Paciflc Ocean and at an angle therewith, the numbering shall commence with the first lot north of the shore of the Pacific Ocean and shall be numbered to the termina. tion of the streets. All even,numbers shall be on the east side of the streets and all odd numbers shall be on the west side thereof. Section 6. The above and forego- ing Ordinance No. 148 shall be pub - lisped once in the Newport News, a newspaper of general circulation, printed, published and circulated in the City of Newport Beach, and shall take effect and be in force thirty days After its passage. The foregoing Ordinance No. 148! was passed at a regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of! Newport Beach held on the 7th day of April, 1919, and on said day approved I by the President of said Board of Trus- tees, the same being passed by the vote of the following named members thereof: I Ayes— Trustees J.
