ORDINANCE NO. 160. <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF <br />NEWPORT BEACH DECLARING <br />IT TO BE UNLAWFUL TO OPE- <br />RATE OR DRIVE AT CERTAIN <br />i� PLACES WITHIN SAID CITY ANY <br />MOTOR VEHICLE AND PR_- <br />SCRIBING A PENALTY FOR ALL <br />VIOLATIONS THEREOF. <br />The Board of Trustees of the City <br />of Newport Beach do ordain as fol- <br />lows: <br />Section 1. The words "motor ve- <br />hicle" r.a used in this ordinance shall <br />include and be construed to mean all <br />vehicles propelled othernvise than b;' <br />muscular power, except such us run <br />upon stationary tracks or rails. <br />Section 2. It shall be unlawful and <br />constitute a misdemeanor for any per- <br />son to ride in or upon, or to operate <br />or drive, any motor vehicle as deFmed <br />In this Ordinance, upon that portion <br />of the City of Newport Beach corn - <br />monly known and designated as the <br />beach, and which is the strip of land <br />lying between the waters of the Pa- <br />_- cific Ocean and the southerly lice of. <br />Surf Avenue and Ocean Avenue„ <br />Section 3. Any person who shall <br />do any of the things in this ord)na.uco <br />declared to be unlawful shall be deem. <br />ad guilty of a misdemeanor and upon <br />r <br />conviction thereof in a court of com- <br />petent jurisdiction shall be punished <br />by a fine not exceeding fifty dollars <br />($50.00) or by imprisonment not ex- <br />ceeding thirty (30) days, or by both <br />such fine and imprisonment it the die - <br />cretion of the court. <br />Secton 4. The above and foregoing <br />Ordinance shall be published once in <br />the Newport News, a newspaper of <br />general circulation, printed and pub- <br />lished In the City of Newport Beach, <br />and shall take effect and be in forco <br />thirty days after its passage. <br />This Ordinance No. 166 was passed <br />at a regular meeting of the Board of <br />Trustees of the City of Newport <br />Beach held on the first day of March. <br />1920, by the affirmative vote of the fol- <br />lowing named members thereof, and <br />on said day was signed and approved <br />by the President of said Board of <br />Trustees: <br />Ayes — Trustees J. P. Greeley, J. J. <br />Schnitker, A. L. Picard, J. C. McCain, <br />L, S. Wilkinson. <br />Noes —None. <br />Absent —None. <br />Attest: M. L.
