HomeMy WebLinkAbout420 - Sale of Goods• 0 • • E 0 ORDINANCE NO. 420 'AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH, AMENDING SECTIONS 34 AND 35 OF ORDINANCE NO. 393 OF THE CITY OF NEW- PORT BEACH, AND ADDING A NEW SECTION THERETO TO BE KNOWN AS SECTION 35a. The City of Newport Beach, by and through its City Council, does ordain as follows: SECTION 1. Section 34 of Or- dinance No. 393 of the City of Newport Beach is hereby amended to read as follows: "The rate of license for selling or contracting to sell articles of .. wearing apparel, drygoods, fancy goods, notions, jewelry, cutlery, groceries, harness, pianos, organs, machinery of all kinds, hardware, tinware, mill products or any mer- chandise of whatsoever class or character from house to house or upon the public streets and not to persons regularly engaged in carrying on a business in the City of Newport Beach, for the whole- sale or retail of the above men- tioned articles of personal prop- erty, and at their respective places of business, $100.00 per annum." SECTION 2. Section 35 of Or- dinance No. 393 of the City of Newport Beach is hereby amended to read as follows: "The rate of license for every solicitor, peddler, or huckster of every class and character, except- ing drummers who deal directly with established places of business in the City of Newport Beach, $100.00 per annum, and every such person shall, before engaging in the business of• soliciting, peddling or hawking wares mentioned in this section, procure from the Chief of Police a number which shall be displayed in a conspicuous place .upon the wagon, vehicle, cart, basket or other receptacle used for the conveyance of goods, wares and merchandise to be sold or peddled in the City of Newport Beach." SECTION 3. There shall be added to ordinance No. 393 of the City of Newport Beach, a new sec- tion to be known as, Section 35a, which shall read m follows: "The licens @s required by Sec- tions 1 and 2' of this ordinance, shall be annual licenses and shall be paid in advance, and no rebate given for any unused portion of the term for which they are is- sued, and shall date from the first day of July, of the fiscal year in which they are issued." SECTION 4. This ordinance shall be published once in NEW- PORT NEWS, a newspaper of general circulation, printed, pub- lished and circulated in the city of Newport Beach, and shall take ef- fect and be in force thirty days after its passage. I hereby certify that the fore- going Ordinance was duly intro- duced before the City Council of the City of Newport Beach at a regular meeting thereof held on the 10th day, of July, 1933, and passed at a regular meeting there- of held on the 17th day of July, 1933, by the following vote, to -wit: AYES, Councilmen: Gordon, Claire, Ellsworth, Garfield, Hilmer. NOES, Councilmen: None. ABSENT, Councilmen: None. Attest: FRANK L. RINEHART, City Clerk. The above and foregoing Ordin- ance No. 420 having been passed by the City Council of the City of Newport Beach, this 17th day of July, 1933, is hereby. signed, and approved by ,me.
