ORDINANCE ADDING SEC-,
TION 4234 TO THE MUNj-
GIPAL CODE OF THE CITY
OF NEWPORT BEACH, PRO -
HIBITING THE DIVING OR
dUl _PING FROM PUBLIC
BR77)01:5 IN THE CITY OF
NEWPORT BEACH AND
PROVIDING A PENALTY
FOR VIOLATION THEREOF:
The City Council of the City of
Newport Beach does ordain as fol-
lows:
SECTUN 1: Section 4234 is.
hereby added to the Municipal,
Code of the City of Newport
Beach as follows, to -wit:
"Section 4234. Diving or jump-
ing from bridges. It is hereby de-
clared unlawful for any person or
persons to dive or jump into the.
water from any public bridge
within the City of Newport Beach.
Any person violating the provis-
ions of this section shall be deem-
ed guilty of a misdemeanor."
SECTION 2: This ordinance is
hereby declared to be an emerg-
ency measure necessary for the
immediate preservation of the
public health and safety and shall
take effect immediately. The fol-
lowing is a statement of the facts
showing its urgency.
There is, at present, no ordin-
ance or ether Is wpreventing the
diving or jumping from public
bridges within the corporate limit
of the City of Newport Beach. To
protect the health and lives of the
citizens of Newport Beach, especi-
ally in view of the periodic sum-
mer influx of people into this
City, requires the immediate pass-
age of this ordinance and its tak-
ing effect immediately.
SECTION 3: This ordinance
shall be published at least once in
the Newport - Balboa Press, a
newspaper of general circulation,
printed, published and circulated
in the City of Newport Beach, and
shall be in force and effect im-
mediately upon the final passage
thereof.
The above and foregoing ordin-
ance was introduced at a regular
meeting of the City Council of the
City of Newport Beach held on the
28th day of August, 1950 and was
finally passed and adopted on the
11th day of September, 1950 by
the following vote, to -wit:
AYES, Councilmen Greeley,
Blue, Finch
NOES, Councilmen None
ABSENT Councilmen .Drake,
Isbell.
