ORDINANCE NO. 725
A'N ORDINANCE AMENDING
SECTION 4234 OF THE MU-,
NICIPAL CODE OF THE CITY
OF NEWPORT BEACH PRO -,
HIBITING DIVING. JUMPING.
OR ENTERING THE WATER
FROM ANY PUBLIC BRIDGE.

PORT BEACH.
The City Council of the City of
Newport Beach does hereby or-
dain as follows:
SECTION 1. Section 4234 of the.
Municipal Code of the City of
Newport Beach is hereby amend-
ed to read as follows:
"Section 4234. Diving or Jump-
ing from Bridges. Piers and other
Public Property. It Is hereby de-
Glared unlawful for any person
or persons to dive, jump or enter
into the water from any public
bridge, public pier, public wharf,
public float immediately in front
of any such pier or wharf, pub -
Ale. bulkheads„ seawalls, groins,
or jUtties or .natural rock forma-
tions on,City property within the
_City of Newport Beach. Any per-
son violating the provisions of
this section shall be deemed
guilty of a misdemeanor."
SECTION 2. This Ordinance
is hereby declared to be an urg-
ency measure and necessary for
the immediate preservation of
the public peace, health and
safety, for the reason that it is
necessary to. take immediate
steps to prohibit the activities of
persons in diving, jumping or
entering the water from certain
public property belonging to the
City, .thereby endangering therp-
5elyes and the health and safety
of others now that the summer
,eeason -has commenced, and
.therefore, this Ordinance shall
'become effective immediately
upon its passage.
SECTION 3. This Ordinance
shall be published once in the
^Newport Harbor Ensign, a news.
paper of general circulation,
printed and published in the
City of- Newport Beach, and shail
be in force and effect Immediate-
ly upon the final passage there-
of.
The above and foregoing ordi-
nance was introduced at a regu-
lar meeting of the City Council
of the City of Newport Beach,
'held on the 28th day of June,
'1954, and was finally passed and
adopted on the 12th day of July,
1954, by the following vote, to
wit:
AYES, COUNCILMEN: BROER-
-ING, SMITH, MILLER, BENNETT,
'HILL.
NOES, COUNCILMEN: None.
'ABSENT COUNCILMEN: None.
