ORDINANCE NO. 1619
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF
NEWPORT BEACH AMENDING. AND
,REPEALING CERTAIN SECT OF
CHAPTER 5 OF ARTICLE V111THH
NEWPORT BEACH MUNICIPAL= "CODE
RELATING TO SIGNS.
The City Council of the CRY L of New.
Part. Beach does ordain as follows:
SECTION 1. Section 8581 of }he New -
,POrt Beach Municipal Code D amended
o read:
"SECTION 6561. Prohibitions.'tal Cam_
',pllance with Code. No Person shall
erect, re•erect, Construct, enlarge, alter,
repair, move, Improve, reprove, conyert,
gar equip any sign Or sign structures,
for Paint a. new wall Sion, In the City,
or cause or, permit the same to be
done, Contrary to or in violation of any
i0 th e Provisions of this Chapter.
(b) No Posing an Public Property-
-No Person, except a public officer or
employee In performance of a Public
duty, shall Paste, Paint, print, nail, tack,
Place or otherwise fasten any card,
'banner, handbill, sign, Poster, or adver-
tisement or notice of any kind, or
'cause the same to be done on any
curbstone, lamp post, pole, hydrant,
,bridge, wall or tree upon any public
'sidewalk, street, or Public Property, ex-
cept as may be required or allowed
by law, or by City Council approval.
(c) No Posting on Street. No person
.shall erect or construct any billboard
or sign device upon any street, except
as may be required or allowed by
Jaw, or by City Council CuPraval.
(d) Separate Offense Each Day. Any
'Person violating any of the provisions
of this chapter 'shell be deemed guilty
lot , a separate offense far each and
,every day or Portion thereof during
'which any such violation Is committed,
Icontinued, or Permpted.
(e) The Provisions Of this section do
not prohibit normal maintenance and
repair of lawful signs. See Section
6535."
SECTION 3. Section 8511 of the New•
Port Beach Municipal Code Is amended
to read:
"SECTION 6511. Ground Sign or Pole
Sign. Any sign which Is supported by
one or more uprights, Pales, or braces
in or upon the ground which are Pat a
Part of any building or enclosed within
the exh,rior walls of any building and
are separated therefrom by a distance
Of at least six (6) Inches."
SECTION 3. Section 8536 of the New-
Part Beach Municipal Code Is repealed-
. SECTION e. Section 8538 of the New-
. Part Beach Municipal Code Is repealed.
SECTION S. Section 8538 of the New,
Port Beach Municipal Code is amended
to read:
"SECTION 6536. PermH6. (a) P6r-
mits Required. Except as Provided in
Section 8532, no Person mall erect, re,
erect, Construct, or perform structural
alterations on any sign, or paint a new
wall sign: or Cause the same to be
done, without first obtaining a Permit
to do so from the Building Official
when the cast of such work exceeds
SO. Electrical Permits must be obtained
for all work on electric signs except

any ordinance Or regulation or any of
Me provisions of this Chapter. If revs•
cation is due to City error, Me permit
fee shall be refunded.
(e) The provisions of this section do
not require a permit for normal main-
tenance and repair Oi lawful signs, In-
cluding replacing of tubing and James.

SECTION 6. Section 8534 of the New-,

SECTION 7. Section 8536 of the New-
port Beach Municipal Code Is amendee
to read:
'SECTION 8536. Inspections. No Per-
son shall erect or Install any sign for
which a Permit Is required without first
having such sign Impacted by the Bulld-
Ing Official. All such signs shell be
brought to the Building Department
prior to Installation or erection for gen-
eral Inspection and attachment of Iden-
tity numher, or if a request is made
twenty -four (24) hours In advance such
