NEWPORT BEACH AMENDING SEC
TION 4238 OF THE NEWPORT BEACH

SECTION 1. Section 4238 of the New
port Beach Municipal Code is amended
to read:
SECTION 4236. Use of Surfboards,
Paddleboards, etc., Surfing Areas,
Times and Dates Restricted.
(a) surfing areas designated. Be-
tween June 10 and September 15 of
each Year the following described
areas of the Pacific Ocean are here-
by designated as surfing areas:
(1) Surfing Area No. 1. That
area between the southerly exten.
sion of the easterly line of 19th
Street and the southwesterly exten.
Stan of the northwesterly line of 30th
Street.
(2) Surfing Area No- 2. That area
between the southwesterly extension
of the northwesterly line of 30th
Street and the westerly boundary of
the City.
(3) Surfing Area No. 3. That area
between a line Parallel to and two
hundred (200) feet easterly of the
East Jetty and a line Parallel to
and twenty (20) feet easterly of the
rest Jetty.
(b) Hours surfing Permitted. Be-
tween June 10 and September 15 of
each year, sublect to all limitations
on use of the beaches. surfing shall
-be Permitted as follows:
(1) In Surfing Area No. 1, surfing
shall be permitted daily between the
hours of 7:38 o'clock A.M. and 10
.'clock A.M.
(2) In Surfing Area No. 2, surfing
shall be permitted daily between the
hours of 5:30 o'clock P.M. and
sunset.
(3) In Surfing Area No. 3, surfing
shall be permitted between the hours
of 6 o'clock A.M. and 12 o'clock n.on
Monday through Friday. except on
holidays, between the hours of 6
o'clock A.M. and 10 o'clock A.M.
on Saturday, Sunday and holidays,
and from 6 o'clock P.M. until sun.

areas unless such Person has In his
Possession and Is actually using a
surfboard, paddleboard, or similar de.
vice."
SECTION 2. Section 4278.1 Is added
to the Newport Beach Municipal Cade
to read:
"SECTION 4238.1. Use of Belly Boards
and Skim Boards. Belly boards and
Skim boards hot exceeding tarty -eight
(48) inches In length are excluded
from the regulations contained in Sec.
tion 4258 and, sublect to the provi-
sion of Sections 4201, 4239, and 4240,
such devices may be used daily at
any place In the Pacific Ocean within
the City until 10 o'clock A.M. and
between the hours of 5:30 o'clock
P.M. and sunset."
SECTION 3. This ordinance shall be
Published once in the official newspaper
of the City, and the same shall be ef-
fective 30 days after the date of its
adoption.
This ordinance was introduced at a
regular meeting of the City Councll of
the City of Newport Beach held on the
26th day of April, 1965, and was adopted
an the Hill, day of May, 1965, by Me
