ORDINANCE NO. 1561 <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH <br />AMENDING SECTION 10.18.020 OF THE NEWPORT <br />BEACH MUNICIPAL CODE TO PROVIDE FOR THE <br />EXEMPTION OF STATE LICENSED BUSINESSES OR <br />PROFESSIONS FROM THE RESTRICTIONS IMPOSED <br />BY SECTION 10.18.010 ENTITLED "FORTUNE <br />TELLING PROHIBITED" <br />The City Council of the City of Newport Beach DOES <br />ORDAIN as follows: <br />SECTION 1. Section 10.18.020 of the Newport Beach <br />Municipal Code is amended to read: <br />"10.18.020 Exemptions. The provisions of <br />Section 10.18.010 shall not be construed to include, pro- <br />hibit or interfere with any business or profession engaged <br />in by any person or entity licensed under State law, or <br />with the exercise of any religious or spiritual function <br />of any priest, minister, clergyman, missionary, or an <br />accredited representative of any bona fide church or reli- <br />gious organization, where such priest, minister, clergyman, <br />missionary or accredited representative holds a certificate <br />of credit, commission or ordination from such bona fide <br />church or religious organization; provided, however, that <br />any church or religious organization which is organized for <br />the primary purpose of conferring certificates of commission, <br />credit or ordination for a monetary consideration and not <br />primarily for the purpose of teaching a religious doctrine <br />or belief shall not be deemed to be a bona fide church or <br />religious organization." <br />SECTION 2. This ordinance shall be published once <br />in the official newspaper of the City, and the same shall be <br />effective 30 days after the date of its adoption. <br />10 This ordinance was introduced at a regular meeting of <br />the City Council of the City of Newport Beach held on the <br />-1- <br />
