ORDINANCE NO. 1608
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH
AMENDING SECTION 12.56.140 OF THE NEWPORT
BEACH MUNICIPAL CODE RELATING TO THE OPERA-
TION OF.BICYCLES ON SIDEWALKS, PERMITTING
THE CITY COUNCIL TO DESIGNATE CERTAIN SIDE-
WALKS ON WHICH BICYCLES MAY BE RIDDEN BY
RESOLUTION
The City Council of the City of Newport Beach DOES
ORDAIN as follows:
SECTION 1. Section 12.56.140 of the Newport Beach
Municipal Code is amended to read:
12.56.140 Operating Bicycle on Sidewalk. No person
shall operate or ride a bicycle, surry cycle, pedicab, or other
wheeled device or conveyance used for transportation and propelled
by human power, upon any sidewalk in the City, except that bicycles
may be ridden on those sidewalks designated by the City Council by
resolution adopted by the City Council, which permits bicycle rid-
ing on certain specified sidewalks.
The foregoing prohibition shall not apply to children's
or invalids', tricycles, wheel chairs, or skate boards.
SECTION 2. This ordinance shall be published once in the
official newspaper of the City, and the same shall be effective
thirty (30) days after the date of its adoption.
This ordinance was introduced at a regular meeting of the
City Council of the City of Newport Beach held on the 12th day of
, 1975, and was adopted on the 9th day of
