ORDINANCE NO. 1804 <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH <br />AMENDING SECTION 20.87.140 OF THE NEWPORT <br />BEACH MUNICIPAL CODE TO REDEFINE THE TERM <br />"DWELLING UNIT" AND AMENDING SECTION <br />20.87.180 OF THE NEWPORT BEACH MUNICIPAL <br />CODE TO REDEFINE THE TERM "FAMILY" <br />The City Council of the City of Newpi rt-gB ch DOES <br />ORDAIN as follows: <br />SECTION 1. Section 20.87.140 of the Newport Beach <br />Municipal Code is amended to read as follows: <br />"20.87.140 DWELLING UNIT. The term 'dwelling <br />unit'shall mean a single unit providing complete <br />independent living facilities for one or more persons, <br />including provisions for living, sleeping, and sani- <br />tation, and having at least one entrance opening to <br />the outside or to a common hallway or entryway shared <br />by other dwelling units or facilities. <br />Dwelling units constructed after August 24, 1972, must <br />contain a minimum of 600 square feet of superficial <br />floor area. <br />Every dwelling unit shall have at least one room which <br />shall have not less than 150 square feet of floor area. <br />Other habitable rooms, except kitchens, shall have an <br />area of not less than 70 square feet. <br />An efficiency type unit shall have a living room of not <br />less than 220 square feet of superficial floor area. <br />An additional 100 square feet of superficial floor area <br />shall be provided for each occupant of each unit in <br />
