AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH
• ADDING SECTION 6.04.085 TO THE NEWPORT BEACH
MUNICIPAL CODE REQUIRING THE INSTALLATION OF
TRASH COMPACTORS IN NEW RESIDENTIAL UNITS
The City Council of the City of Newport Beach
DOES ORDAIN as follows:
SECTION 1. Section 6.04.085 is hereby added to
the Newport Beach Municipal Code to read as follows:
"6.04.085 Trash Compactors. Every newly construc-
ted dwelling unit shall contain a trash compactor. For
purposes of this section, newly constructed shall mean
a dwelling unit for which an application for building
permit is submitted after the effective date of this
Ordinance, except for new residential units being con -
structed in phases under Subdivision Maps approved prior
to the effective date of this Ordinance. For purposes
of this section, trash compactor shall mean a device,
electrically powered, which is designed solely to com-
press trash and refuse for transfer to another container.
The requirements of this section shall not apply to
dwelling units that exist as of the effective date of
this Ordinance and which are thereafter remodeled or
rehabilitated."
SECTION 2. This ordinance shall be published once
in the official newspaper of the City, and the same shall be
effective thirty (30) days after the date of its adoption.
This ordinance was introduced at a regular meeting
• of the City Council of the City of Newport Beach held on the
14th day of July, 1980, and was adopted on the 28th day of
