• AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH
AMENDING SECTION 2.12.100 DESIGNATING THE
PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR AS THE CITY ENGINEER
PRO TEM
WHEREAS, Section 2.12.100 of the Municipal Code
establishes the Public Works Department and defines the
responsibilities of the Public Works Director; and
WHEREAS, said section currently provides that the
Public Works Director shall also be the City Engineer; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has determined it is
appropriate to have an independent and separate position of City
Engineer and designate the Public Works Director as City Engineer
Pro Tem, to act as the City Engineer upon the City Engineer's
absence from the City.
SECTION 1: Section 2.12.100 of the Newport Beach
Municipal Code is amended to read as follows:
2.12.100 Public Works Department. The Public Works
Department shall be under the supervision of .the Public Works
Director who shall also be the City Engineer Pro Tem and the
Superintendent of Streets. The functions of the Public Works
Department shall include:
(a) Planning, design, preparation of plans, and
administration of contracts for the construction of
public works, including street, storm drain, sewer,
water, harbor, street lighting and other public
facilities;
(b) Right -of -way acquisition;
(c) Subdivision engineering services;

(d) Traffic engineering services;
(e) Engineering services for the other City
departments.
SECTION 2. This Ordinance shall be published once in
the official newspaper of the City, and the same shall be
effective thirty (30) days after the date of its adoption.
This Ordinance was introduced at a regular meeting of
the City Council of the City of Newport Beach held on the 22nd
day of June, 1981, and was adopted on the 14th day of July 1981,
by the following vote, to wit:
