HomeMy WebLinkAbout11 - Sidewalk & Curb Construction on Ocean Avenue• so 1 2 3 4 5 M. 7 EF-i 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 32 COPY RESOLUTION OF INTENTION NO. 11 COPY A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH DECLARINGS ITS INTENTION TO ORDER AND REQUIRE THE CONSTRUCTION OF A CEMENT SIDE WALK AND A CEMENT CURB UPON AND ALONG THE NORTH SIDE OF OCEAN AVENUE IN THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH BETWEEN THE WEST CURB LINE OF 30TH STREET AND THE EAST CURB LINE OF 36TH STREET EXCEPT UPON SUCH PORTIONS THEREOF WHERE A CEMENT SIDE WALK AND CURB HAVE ALREADY BEEN CONSTRUCTED: DIRECTING THE CLERK TO POST THIS RESOLU- TION AND TO PUBLISH THE SAME: REQUIRING THE POSTING OF NOTICES OF STREET WORK BY THE STREET SUPERINTENDENT AND THE PUBLICATION OF SIMILAR NOTICE AND DESIGNATING THE NEWSPAPER IN WHICH SAID PUB- LICATION SHALL BE HAD. The Board of Trustees of the City of Newport Beach do here- by resolve and declare as follows: Section 1: RESOLVED: That the public interest and con- venience require and that it is the intention of the Board of Trustees of the City of Newport Beach to order the following street work done, namely, the construction of a cement sidewalk and a cement curb along and upon the north side of Ocean Avenue in the City of Newport Beach to the official line and grade of said Ocean Avenue (which official line and grade of said Ocean Avenue is established by Section 4 of Ordinance Number 30 of the City of Newport Beach which Ordinance Number 30 is now on file and one of the records of the Office of the Clerk of said City) said cement sidewalk to be constructed upon and along the north side of said Ocean Avenue and ajoining the property line thereof and shall extend from the west curb line of 30th Street to the east curb line of 36th Street in said City, except upon and along such portions of said Ocean Avenue between the west curb line of 30th Street and the east curb line of 36th Street upon which a cement sidewalk and curb have already been constructed in accord- ance with the specifications hereinafter set forth and to the official line and grade of said Ocean Avenue asestablished by Section 4 of Ordinance Number 30 of said City and the cement curb shall be placed and constructed along and adjoinjing the south line of the cement sidewalk provided for herein. -1- I Section 2: RESOLVED: That the specifications for the 2 construction of said cement sidewalk are hereby established as to 3 follows: 4 (A) For the sidewalk the earth foundation shall be filled in and 5 tamped solid to such a height as when surfaced shall conform to th 6 grade as established by Section 4 of Ordinance Number 30 of the 7 City of Newport Beach. 8 (B) When said earth foundation shall have been so filled in and 9 tamped the same shall be surfaced with a layer 2 112 inches thick 10 and 15 feet and 5 inches in width, of concrete, composed of seven 11 parts of fine, clean gravel to one part of best Portland Cement, 12 properly mixed and well tamped into place. 13 (C) Said concrete layer shall then be surfaced with a cap of 14 cement 112 of an inch thick, composed of equal parts of fine, 15 clean, sharp sand and best Portland Cement, the same to be floated 16 and troweled to an even and smooth surface sloping toward the 17 street in the ratio of 3 -16 of an inch of fall to each foot in 18 width of the sidewalk. 19 Section 3: RESOLVED: That the specifications for said ce- 20 ment curb are as follows: 21 (A) The said curb shall consist of a core ten inches thick at 22 the bottom and seven inches thick at the top and 718 inches deep 23 and set with the batter towards the street. The top when finished 24 in a line with the sloping surface of the sidewalk. 25 (B) Such top and upper ten inches of the batter or street face 26 to be dressed 112 inch thick with cement, composed of equal parts 27 of clean, sharp sand and best Portland Cement, the same to be 28 29 floated and troweled to a true, even and smooth surface. 4: Section RESOLVED: That the Clerk be and he is hereby 30 directed to Post this Resolution of Intention conspicuously, for 31 two days, on or near the door of the Council Chamber of the Board 32 of Trustees of the City f Beach and to y Newport p publish the same -2- 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 81 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 so 29 30 31 32 by two insertions in the Newport News, a weekly newspaper, pub- lished and circulated in the City of .Newport Beach, which Newport News is hereby designated by the Board of Trustees for that pur- pose. Section 5: RESOLVED: That the Street Superintendent shall thereupon cause to be conspicuously posted abong the line of said contemplated work, not more than one hundred feet in distance apart but not less than three-in all, notices of the passage of this Resolution. Said notices shall be headed "Notice of Street Work" in letters of not less than one inch in length and shall in legible characters state the fact of the passage of this Resolu- tion, its date, and briefly the work proposed and refer to this Resolution for further particulars and whereas there is no daily newspapr published and circulated in the City of Newport Beach he shall cause a notice similar in substance to be published by one insertion in the Newport News, a weekly newspaper, published and circulated in the City of Newport Beach, which Newport News is hereby designated for that purpose. The above and foregoing Resolution of Intention No. 11 was passed and adopted the 22nd day of June, A. D. 1908 at a regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of Newport Beach by the following vote, to wit: AYES: C. A. Barton, F. W. Beckwith, Jos. Ferguson, John McMillan, A. N. Smith. NOES: None ABSENT: None The foregoing Resolution of Intention is hereby approved this 22nd day of June, A. D. 1908. ATTEST: (C. A.
