RESOLUTION NO. 118
A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT
BEACH, AWARDING THE CONTRACT FOR CERTAIN WORK ON CERTAIN PORTIONS
OF THE ALLEY SITUATED BETWEEN CENTRAL AVENUE AND SURF AVENUE WITH
IN THE SAID CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH.
WHEREAS, the Board of Trustees of the City of Newport Beach
did on the 14th day of July, 1919, duly adopt a Resolution No.112
ordering the following work to be done:
That the Alley situated between Surf Avenue and Central Avenue,'
from the westerly line of Washington Street to the easterly line
of Alvarado Street within said City, be graded for its entire
width to the official grade and a surface be constructed there-
upon of Clay and Gravel, including all street and alley inter -
sections,(with the exception of any portions upon which a Clay
and Gravel surface has already been constructed), in accordance
with Plan No. 254 adopted by Resolution No. 110 of the Board of
Trustees of said City, and on file in the office of the City
Engineer of said City, and in further acocordance with Specifi -
cations No. 23, adopted by Ordinance No. 118 of the Board of
Trustees of said City and on file in the office of the City Clerk
of said City.
That the said contemplated work or improvement of said Alley
described in Section One hereof, is in the opipion of the Board
of Trustees of said City, of more than local or ordinary public
benefit, said Board hereby makes the expense of said work or
improvement chargeable upon a district which district said Board
hereby declares to be the district benefited by said work or
improvement, and to be assessed to pay the costs and expenses
thereof; which said district is bounded and described as follows,
to wit:
Beginning at the intersection of the center line of Alvarado
Street and the westerly prolongation of the northerly line of
Block One(1) of a Map of Newport Bay Tract, as recorded in Map

Book 4, page 16, Records of Orange County, California; thence
easterly in a straight line along the westerly prolongation of
the northerly line of the aforesaid Block One (1) and along the
northerly line of said Block One(1) and along the northerly line
of Block 2 of the aforesaid Map of Newport Bay Tract to the north-
westerly corner of Lot 1, Block 4 of a Map of Balboa Tract, as
recorded in Map B ook 4,page 11, records of Orange County,Calif
thence easterly in a straight line to the intersection of the
center line of Washington Street and the easterly prolongation of
the northerly line of Block 8 of the aforesaid Map of Balboa
Tract; thence southerly along the center line of-Washington
Street to the intersection with the easterly prolongation of
the southerly line of the aforesaid Block 8 of a Map of the Balboa
Tract; thence westerly in a straight line to the southwesterly
corner of Lotll, Block 4, of the aforesaid Map of the Balboa
Tract; thence northwesterly in a straight line to the south-
easterly corner of Lot 9, Block 2 of the aforesaid Map of Newport
Bay Tract; thence westerly in a straight line along the southerly
lines of Blocks 1 and 2 of the aforesaid Map of Newport Bay Tract
and along the westerly prolongation of the southerly line of the
aforesaid Block 1, to the intersection with the center line of
Alvarado Street; thence northerly along the center line of Alvarado
Street to the intersection with the westerly prolongation} of the
(northerly line of the aforesaid Block 1, the place of beginning,
excepting therefrom lands faotming any part of any public street
or alley.
All the proceedings for the aforesaid imrpovemr.ent shall be
taken under and in accordance with the provisions of an Act of
the Legislature of the State of California, known and designated
as the "Improvement Act of 1911," and all acts amendatory thereof.

(AND WHEREAS, by said Resolution the City Clerk was directed to
publish and post a notice inviting proposals for doingssaid work,
as required by law and the time for opening bids was fixed at
the hour of eight o'clock P.M. of Monday the 4th day of August,
1919;
AND WHEREAS, the Board of Trustees of the said City of Newport
IBeach in open session on the 4th day of August, 1919, has publicly
opened, examined and declared all sealed proposals or bids offered
for the aforesaid work;
NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved by the said Board of Trustees, that
the said Board hereby rejects all of said bids except the next
herein mentioned and hereby awards the contract for said work to
the lowest, regular, responsible bidder therefor, to wit:
To Rogers Brothers Company at the prices specified in their
proposal on file for said work, to wit:
Surfacing with clay and gravel, and grading,perrsquare foot
8 3 /1G cents.
AND BE IT FURTHER EESOLVED, THAT THE City Clerk is hereby
directed to post notice of this award conspicueously for five
days on or near the Council Cahmber door of the Board of Trustees

of said City, and also to publish said notice by two insetions
in the Newport News a weekly newspaper, printed, published and
circulated in said City and which is hereby designated for that
purpose.
Passed by the Board of Brustees of the City of Newport Beach
at their regular meeting held on the 6th day of August, 1919.
