HomeMy WebLinkAbout6923 - School BondsRESOLUTION N0. 6923 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH EXPRESSING CONCERN ABOUT THE SHORTAGE OF SCHOOL CLASSROOMS AND URGING VOTER APPROVAL OF SCHOOL BONDS AT THE ELECTION FEBRUARY 11, 1969 WHEREAS, there is a serious shortage of classrooms in the Newport -Mesa School District presently requiring over 1300 children to receive less than a full day's education; and WHEREAS, if not remedied promptly, this shortage will become even more critical as enrollment increases and more students are forced onto double sessions; and WHEREAS, the City Council believes that a first class local school system is essential to the social and economic well being of the community; and WHEREAS, the City Council is concerned that unless the new facilities are provided it will be impossible for the district to maintain the level of educational quality that the community needs and has enjoyed in the past; and WHEREAS, the Board of Trustees of the school district has scheduled a bond election for February 11, 1969, to provide funds for a building program designed to meet the most urgent classroom needs, eliminate double sessions by next fall, and achieve more efficient use of existing facilities and equipment; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Newport Beach urges the voters of Newport Beach to consider the needs of the local school system, to consider the social and economic implications for the community if needed classrooms are not provided, and to vote in favor of the bond issue at the election February 11, 1969.
