HomeMy WebLinkAbout6927 - Superior Avenue Alignment for Route 55E- 3 (4) RESOLUTION NO. 692T A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH URGING THE CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY COMMISSION TO ADOPT A SUPERIOR AVENUE ALIGNMENT FOR THE ROUTE 55 (NEWPORT) FREEWAY California Highway Commission to reopen the matter of the alignment of the southerly terminus of the Newport Freeway; and WHEREAS, the City of Newport Beach is vitally concerned over the location of the Newport Freeway and the preservation of Newport Boulevard as a major local arterial street; and WHEREAS, the City Council has carefully reviewed the alternate routings within the City of Newport Beach, and has determined that the harbor area's traffic needs would best be served by the preservation of Newport Boulevard as a major arterial street which would be accomplished if the Superior Avenue alignment is adopted; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of Newport Beach urges the California Highway Commission to adopt an alignment along Superior Avenue for the Route 55 (Newport) Freeway in place of the presently adopted route along Newport Boulevard. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mayor of the City of Newport Beach is authorized and instructed to present the City's position in this matter before the Public Hearing to be held by the State Division of Highways on February 18, 1969, at the Orange County Fair Grounds.
