A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
NEWPORT BEACH COMMENDING THE "REACH COMMITTEE"
FOR LEADERSHIP, DEDICATION AND COMMITMENT TO THE
CONTINUING PROVISION OF SUPERIOR QUALITY HEALTH
CARE TO THE COMMUNITY

qW WHEREAS, there exists a critical shortage of hospital beds
at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian; and
WHEREAS, the continuing population flow to the Newport Harbor
area has resulted in overcrowded facilities at Hoag Hospital; and
WHEREAS, a committee composed of prominent citizens of the
area, to be known as the "REACH Committee ", has been formed; and
WHEREAS, the REACH Committee will be the driving force behind
the 1969 -1970 -1971 REACH Expansion Program resulting in an eleven story
addition to Hoag Hospital; and
WHEREAS, the REACH Committee will work in coordination with
the Hoag Hospital Board of Directors and the Hospital Administration
in raising $3 Million from the community to expand hospital facilities
to meet the demand; and
WHEREAS, the REACH Committee's inspirational motto is "Ah,
but a man's reach should exceed his grasp, or what's a heaven for ? ";
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and City
Council of the City of Newport Beach take special pride in personally
commending all members of the REACH Committee for their public
spirited contribution to the health care of their community in render-
ing personal service in securing adequate facilities at Hoag Memorial
Hospital Presbyterian;
BE.IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mayor and members of the
City Council extend their warm best wishes for a successful three
year community fund drive during the REACH years.
