RESOLUTION NO. 7 35 5
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF NEWPORT BEACH AUTHORIZING ALL OF ITS MEMBERS
• TO FILE WRITTEN ARGUMENTS FOR AND AGAINST CITY
MEASURES
• WHEREAS, an election is to be held in the City of
s.
Newport Beach on March 9, 1971, at which there will be submitted
to the qualified electors of said City the following City
measures:
1. "Shall an ordinance be adopted rescinding that
portion of City Council Resolution No. 6890
(adopted October 28, 1968) and that portion of the
Freeway Agreement made and entered into on
October 30, 1968, by and between the State of
California and the City of Newport Beach pertaining
to Route 1 (Pacific Coast) Freeway between Newport
Beach City limit near Buck Gully and Bayside Drive ?"
2. "Shall the Charter be amended to add Section 422
to require that the City Council shall not enter
into any contract with the State of California, or
any of its agencies, for the construction of a
freeway or the closure of any City street to
accommodate a freeway without first obtaining the
approval of a majority of the voters of the City at
a general or special election ?"
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Newport
Beach, California, DOES HEREBY RESOLVE, DETERMINE AND ORDER, as
follows:
SECTION 1. That the City Council, being the legisla-
tive body of the City of Newport Beach, hereby authorizes
E. F. Hirth, Howard.Rogers, Lindsley Parsons, Donald McInnis,
Carl J. Kymla, Milan M. Dostal and Richard D. Croul, members of
said body, to file written arguments for and against the City
measures set forth in the recital hereof, in accordance with
Article 4, Chapter 3, Division 4 of the Elections Code of the
State of California, and to change said arguments until and
including the date affixed by the City Clerk after which no

arguments for or against said City measures may be submitted
to her.

• ADOPTED this 11th day of January, 1971.
REPEALED AT SAME MEETING, JANUARY 11, 1971.
