RESOLUTION NO. 7 3 5 9 <br />• A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />• OF NEWPORT BEACH AUTHORIZING MEMBERS TO FILE <br />WRITTEN ARGUMENTS AGAINST INITIATIVE MEASURES <br />Z <br />WHEREAS, an election is to be held in the City of <br />Newport Beach on March 9, 1971, at which there will be submitted <br />to the qualified electors of said City the following initiative <br />measures: <br />1. "Shall an ordinance be adopted rescinding that <br />portion of City Council Resolution No. 6890 <br />(adopted October 28, 1968) and that portion of <br />the Freeway Agreement made and entered into on <br />October 30, 1968, by and between the State of <br />California and the City of Newport Beach pertaining <br />to Route 1 (Pacific Coast) Freeway between Newport <br />Beach City limit near Buck Gully and Bayside Drive ?" <br />2. "Shall the Charter be amended to add Section 422 <br />to require that the City Council shall not enter <br />into any contract with the State of California, or <br />any of its agencies, for the construction of a <br />freeway or the closure of any City street to <br />accommodate a freeway without first obtaining the <br />approval of a majority of the voters of the City <br />at a general or special election ?" <br />NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Newport <br />Beach, California, DOES HEREBY RESOLVE, DETERMINE AND ORDER, as <br />follows: <br />SECTION 1. That the City Council, being the legisla- <br />tive body of the City of Newport Beach, hereby authorizes the <br />following members of said body to file written arguments against <br />the initiative measures set forth in the recital hereof, in <br />accordance with Article 4, Chapter 3, Division 4 of the Elections <br />Code of the State of California, and to change said arguments <br />-1- <br />
