RESOLUTION NO. 7448
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF NEWPORT BEACH RECOGNIZING THE ORANGE COUNTY
CRIMINAL JUSTICE COUNCIL AS THE REGIONAL CRIMINAL
JUSTICE PLANNING BOARD
WHEREAS, the President's Crime Commission of 1967
recognized the urgent need for comprehensive criminal justice
planning in the United States; and
WHEREAS, the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act
of 1968 provided a national strategy to address the documented
problems in the administration of justice; and
WHEREAS, the Governor, pursuant to provisions of the
Deukmejian- Moretti Act, established the California Council on
Criminal Justice as the State Criminal Justice Planning Agency to
further the comprehensiveness of criminal justice planning in this
State; and
WHEREAS, the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets
legislation has provided that forty per cent (40 %) of planning
money must be distributed through local governments or combinations
of units of local government; and
WHEREAS, the California Council on Criminal Justice has
established Orange County as a separate region, effective July 1,
1971;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Newport Beach that it recognizes the Orange County Criminal
Justice Council as the Orange County regional planning and
coordinating body for criminal justice.
ADOPTED this 14th day of June, 1971.
