A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF NEWPORT BEACH URGING THE LEAGUE OF CALI-
FORNIA CITIES AND THE COUNTY SUPERVISORS'
ASSOCIATION OF CALIFORNIA TO MODIFY THE RULES
ESTABLISHED BY PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION
• CASE NO. 8209 FOR UNDERGROUNDING EXISTING
UTILITY LINES
WHEREAS, the California Public Utility Commission by
Case No. 8209 has established the rules and regulations for the
conversion of existing overhead distribution facilities; and
WHEREAS, these rules and regulations now require local
government to become directly involved in the conversion of the
customer's service; and
WHEREAS, this involvement with the customer's service
is inefficient, cumbersome and results in an undue and needless
burden being placed on local government; and
WHEREAS, it is felt that the utility companies should
be better equipped and staffed than a public agency to work with
their own customers.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council
of the City of Newport Beach urges both the League of California
Cities and the County Supervisors' Association to support a
change in the existing rules and regulations for the conversion
of the customer's service that would eliminate the need for
local government being directly involved in converting said
service; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is hereby
directed to send copies of this resolution to the League of
California Cities, the County Supervisors' Association of Cali-
fornia, and all of the cities in Orange County.
