A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
NEWPORT BEACH ORDERING THE CLOSURE OF THE NORTHERLY
ROADWAY OF DOVER DRIVE AT IRVINE AVENUE
WHEREAS, the TOPICS report of the City of Newport Beach sub -
stantiates the need for the installation of traffic signals at the
Dover - Irvine intersection and the removal of a portion of the southerly
median and island in Irvine Avenue at the intersection; and
WHEREAS, a plan has been proposed making a cul -de -sac of the
Dover Drive northerly roadway with the remaining streets operating as a
normal four -way intersection; and
WHEREAS, if the north roadway of Dover Drive can be made a
cul -de -sac, the signal project will be greatly simplified; and
WHEREAS, residents in the area of Dover Drive and Irvine Avenue
have been notified of the proposed closure; and
WHEREAS, on January 8, 1973, the City Council of the City of
Newport Beach held a public hearing to consider this matter and after
said public hearing have concluded that the north roadway of Dover Drive
at Irvine Avenue should be closed for a trial period.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City
of Newport Beach that the north roadway of Dover Drive at Irvine Avenue
is hereby ordered temporarily closed and staff is directed to have a
portion of the southerly median island in Irvine Avenue removed.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that after a reasonable trial period
using temporary barricades, the Public Works Director may permanently
close off said roadway if in his judgment it would be in the best interest
of the public and meets with local acceptance.
ADOPTED this 8th day of January 1973.
