HomeMy WebLinkAbout8278 - Assembly Bill 3924• J RESOLUTION NO. 8278 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH URGING THE STATE LEGISLATURE TO ENACT ASSEMBLY BILL 3924 (TIPPLER'S TAX) WHEREAS, municipalities in California are faced with a growing responsibility to provide additional and increased services for their residents; and WHEREAS, the State Legislature has limited the taxing authority of local agencies to provide the revenue to support these new services; and WHEREAS Assembly Bill 3924 if enacted would enable cities to levy a S% tax on the sale of alcoholic beverages consumed on the premises; and WHEREAS, this so- called "Tippler's Tax" would constitute an appropriate and fair means to provide much of this revenue, avoiding the necessity of further burdening the local property tax payer; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Newport Beach that it hereby urges the California State Assembly and State Senate to pass Assembly Bill 3924.
