A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF NEWPORT BEACH DECLARING THE MONTH OF
• MARCH TO BE BURGLARY PREVENTION MONTH
WHEREAS, the City of Newport Beach has sponsored and
supervised a number of programs known as Burglary Prevention
Through Citizen Participation; and
WHEREAS, the crime of burglary in Orange County
increased 118 in 1975 over 1974 to a staggering 37,885 separate
crimes, costing the Orange County citizens over $16 million
in 1975; and
WHEREAS, the City of Newport Beach has had strong
citizen support in its crime prevention programs, and shows a
208 reduction in such offenses during the year 1975; and
WHEREAS, 1,381 burglary offenses in 1975 cost the
citizens of Newport Beach $968,650; and
WHEREAS, 424 arrests were made by Newport Beach Police
with, in many instances, the help of alert citizens; and
WHEREAS, 1,365 burglary offenses in 1976 cost the
citizens of Newport Beach $924,101; and
and
WHEREAS, this constitutes a further reduction of 4.68;
WHEREAS, citizen support and participation continues
to be the major factors in reducing the incidence of burglary.
• NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council
of the City of Newport Beach does hereby declare the month of
March to be Burglary Prevention Month, and urges all citizens
to renew their dedication to crime prevention efforts, so that
the losses occasioned by the crime of burglary, may be
minimal.
