A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
NEWPORT BEACH RELATING TO THE AUTHORITY OF THE
CITY MANAGER TO SUSPEND OPERATION OF PARKING
METERS DURING THE CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR'S
HOLIDAYS, AND RESCINDING RESOLUTION NO. 8960
• WHEREAS, on December 20, 1976, the City Council
adopted Resolution No. 8960 suspending the operation of all
parking meters in the City of Newport Beach beginning on the
third Monday of December of each year and ending on January 2nd;
and
WHEREAS, the Newport Beach Traffic Affairs Committee
has surveyed the business community and has determined that
the vast majority of businesses would like to see the practice
of bagging the parking meters during the Christmas and New
Year's holidays discontinued; and
WHEREAS, covering the meters during the Holiday
Season results in an abuse of the privilege by the public and
lost revenue to the City; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that it
would be in the best interest of the City to discontinue the
practice of covering the parking meters during the Christmas
holidays;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council
of the City of Newport Beach hereby will discontinue each year
the practice of suspending the operation of the parking meters
in the City of Newport Beach.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Resolution No. 8960 is
hereby rescinded.
ADOPTED this 28th day of aMarch'1��p 1977.
