A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF NEWPORT BEACH SUPPORTING THE NOMINEES OF THE
ORANGE COUNTY TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION FOR
CONSIDERATION FOR APPOINTMENT TO THE CALIFORNIA
• TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION
WHEREAS, the County of Orange has experienced one of
the most pronounced growth rates in the nation; and
WHEREAS, during the last five years the County of
Orange received nearly sixty -seven percent of the added popula-
tion to the six - county area represented by the Southern California
Association of Governments; and
WHEREAS, the County of Orange accounts for 2.732
billion dollars of value added to products manufactured in
California; and
WHEREAS, in terms of gross national product, Orange
County is the eighth largest county in the United States; and
in terms of population, Orange County is the ninth largest
in the United States; and
WHEREAS, of the 693 freeway miles in the Caltrans
District 07, the County of Orange accounts for at least twenty
percent; and
WHEREAS, the Orange County Transportation Commission
requests that a representative from Orange County be appointed
to the California Transportation Commission and recommends the
support of the following nominees:
Mary Evelyn Bryden
Anthony R. Di Giovanni
• G. J. Fielding, Ph.D.
Doreen Marshall
Frances R. Wood
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council
of the City of Newport Beach does hereby endorse the recommendations
and nominees of the Orange County Transportation Commission
and urge the appointment of a representative. of Orange County
to the newly- created California Transportation Commission.
