A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF NEWPORT BEACH SUPPORTING ANY LEGITIMATE
STUDY TO RESOLVE THE REGIONAL AIR TRANSPORTATION
NEEDS IN ORANGE COUNTY
WHEREAS, the availability of adequate air transpor-
tation facilities is beneficial to many of our citizens and
businesses; and
WHEREAS, the State, SCAG and other local studies
forecast a greatly increased public demand for air carrier
service in the 1980s and 1990s in Southern California; and
WHEREAS, it is not feasible to expand Orange County
Airport and may not be practical to expand LAX or Ontario Airports
sufficiently to meet the full public need for air carrier service;
and
WHEREAS, it may not be feasible to expand certain
other existing air carrier airports to meet the forecast deficit
without adverse environmental effects; and
WHEREAS, the economic well -being of the area could
be adversely affected if public air transportation demands are
not met;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council
of the City of Newport Beach supports any legitimate study
undertaken with regard to establishing a suitable location for
a new regional airport in the SCAG area.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is hereby
directed to forward copies of this Resolution to the Orange
County Division, League of California Cities, to SCAG, to the
Inter- County Airport Authority and the Federal Aviation
Administration.
