A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF NEWPORT BEACH SUPPORTING SENATE BILL 186
AND OPPOSING THE MCCARTHY /PRIOLO LONG -TERM
FINANCING PLAN
WHEREAS, Senate Bill 186 (Rodda) provides for
$266 million for cities in second -year "bailout" funds and
maintains the present 1¢ sales tax returned to point of sale;
and
WHEREAS, a proposal has been submitted to the State
Legislature known as the McCarthy /Priolo Plan which would,
among other things, eliminate the local 10 sales tax currently
distributed to cities and counties; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Newport
Beach finds that the McCarthy /Priolo Plan for long -term
financing is totally unacceptable,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council
of the City of Newport Beach hereby wishes to go on record
officially supporting Senate Bill 186 and at the same time
opposing the McCarthy /Priolo Long -Term Financing Plan.
ADOPTED this 14th day of May , 1979.
