• A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF NEWPORT BEACH OPPOSING COURT MANDATED
CROSS - DISTRICT AND /OR CROSS- COUNTY STUDENT
TRANSPORTATION
WHEREAS, recent court decisions appear to be tending
in the direction of mandating cross- district and /or cross-
county student transportation to achieve statistical integra-
tion; and
WHEREAS, such a plan could result in sharp loss of
local control and, conceivably, in the administration of schools
by court order; and
WHEREAS, the Newport -Mesa Unified School District has
a sound record of a high quality educational program for all
children according to the dictates of the local community,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council
of the City of Newport Beach hereby states its firm commitment
to quality education for all, to the maintenance of local control
of school systems, and to the continuance of the ability of local
districts to decide what should happen to students within local
boundaries.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City
of Newport Beach hereby opposes mandating cross - district and /or
cross - county student transportation to achieve statistical
integration.
