HomeMy WebLinkAbout9597 - OC Airport Aviation CommitteeRESOLUTION NO. 9597 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH ESTABLISHING THE ORANGE COUNTY AIRPORT AVIATION COMMITTEE WHEREAS, the potential expansion of Orange County Airport to the detriment of the City of Newport Beach continues to be a major concern of the Newport Beach City Council; and WHEREAS, the City Council believes it to be in the best interest of the City to form a Council- Citizen Committee for the purpose of preparing a plan to assure the future welfare of this community against any further unwarranted intrusion by the Orange County Airport; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Newport Beach does hereby establish the Orange County Airport Aviation Committee to be comprised of the following membership: 1. Two (2) Newport Beach Councilmen; 2. The City Attorney or his representative; 3. The City Manager or his representative; 4. One (1) citizen representing a homeowners association located in the impact area; 5. One (1) citizen representing the Airport Action Association; 6. One (1) volunteer attorney. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Airport Aviation Committee shall have the following duties and responsibilities: a. Establish procedures and criteria for retaining special counsel to assist in airport litigation; b. Coordinate for the Council as feasible, information from SLAG, the ANCLUC Committee, and other groups involved with airport land use, master plan, alternate site selection, etc. Page 1 of 2 C. Recommend strategy to Council for: 1) Preventing airport expansion; 2) Determining alternate site. " .dnh� d. Prepare a plan and associated strategies to encourage 'Raw increased use of Ontario Airport by Orange County residents; • BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Airport Aviation Committee shall cease to exist on July 10, 1980, or at such time as the Committee makes its recommendations to the City Council, whichever occurs first.
