• A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
NEWPORT BEACH ESTABLISHING DESIGNATION OF
GEOGRAPHICAL AREAS IN NEWPORT BEACH AS
"CORONA DEL MAR" " BALBOA ISLAND" AND "THE BALBOA
PENINSULA ".
WHEREAS, the portion of Newport Beach easterly of MacArthur Boulevard has
historically been referenced as "Corona del Mar', and
WHEREAS, the island in Newport Beach which is located at the south terminus
of Jamboree Road is named "Balboa Island "; and
WHEREAS, The Balboa Peninsula, where Newport Boulevard and State Route
55 terminate in Newport Beach has historically been referenced as "The Balboa Peninsula ";
and
• WHEREAS, Corona del Mar, Balboa Island and The Balboa Peninsula each
have their own zip codes; and
WHEREAS, the formal designation of these geographical areas as "Corona del
Mar', "Balboa Island" and "The Balboa Peninsula" allows the City to request that Caltrans
place signage on the appropriate State highways directing motorists to these areas of the City.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of
Newport Beach that the geographical area of Newport Beach easterly of MacArthur Boulevard
is designated as "Corona del Mar', the island in Newport Beach located at the south terminus
of Jamboree Road is designated as "Balboa Island ", and the peninsula where Newport
Boulevard and State Route 55 terminate in Newport Beach is designated "The Balboa
Peninsula."

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Newport Beach
that Caltrans be requested to provide signage on the State highways at appropriate locations
to direct motorists to "Corona del Mar', "Balboa Island" and "The Balboa Peninsula."

City Council of said City at a regular meeting of said Council, duly and regularly held on the 24th
day of March, 1997, and that the same was so passed and adopted by the following vote, to wit:
Ayes: O'Neil, Thomson, Hedges, Glover, Noyes, and Mayor Debay
Noes: None
Absent: Edwards
Abstain: None
