RESOLUTION NO. 98 -30 <br />• A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT <br />BEACH APPROVING AN AMENDMENT TO THE LAND USE ELEMENT OF <br />THE NEWPORT BEACH GENERAL PLAN [GPA 98 -1 (A)] <br />WHEREAS, the proposed redesignation of the property located at 1800 to 1804 West Balboa <br />Boulevard from Two Family Residential to Retail and Service Commercial has been determined to be <br />consistent with the Land Use Element policies regarding commercial land uses and development; and <br />WHEREAS, on April 9, 1998, the Planning Commission of the City of Newport Beach held a public <br />hearing regarding General Plan Amendment 98 -1 (A); and <br />WHEREAS, on May 11, 1998, the City Council of the City of Newport Beach held a public hearing <br />regarding General Plan Amendment 98 -1 (A); and <br />WHEREAS, the public was duly noticed of these public hearings; and <br />WHEREAS, pursuant to the California Environmental Quality Act, it has been determined that the <br />• proposed amendment is categorically exempt under Class I, existing facilities. <br />THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: <br />SECTION 1: The Land Use Element of the General Plan shall be amended to designate the subject <br />property to Retail and Service Commercial. <br />SECTION 2: the Land Use Element of the General Plan shall be amended to read as follows: <br />West Bay Area (Statistical Area DI) <br />Marinapark. This site is located on the bay front between 18th Street and 15th Street. It is designated <br />for Recreational and Environmental Open Space, and is proposed to be ultimately used for aquatic <br />facilities, expanded beach and community facilities such as the existing American Legion. The <br />existing mobile home park use will be allowed to continue until the end of the existing lease. At that <br />time the City will make the decision as to whether the lease should be further extended, or the <br />• property converted to public use. <br />
