A RESOLUTION REGARDING
STANDING CITY COUNCIL COMMITTEES
OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH
Whereas, the City Council of the City of Newport Beach values the
community input and dialogue created by the boards, committees, and
commissions within the City that involve residents, interested business
persons, and Council members; and
Whereas, these boards, committees, and commissions, include
Charter Boards and Commissions like the Board of Library Trustees, the
City Arts Commission, the Civil Service Board, the Parks, Beaches, and
Recreation Commission, and the Planning Commission as well as the
Building Code Board of Appeals; and
Whereas, members of the Newport Beach community also
participate in community and neighborhood issues via Council/ Citizens'
Ad Hoc Committees like the Aviation Committee, the Ad Hoc Committee
• to Promote Revitalization of the Balboa Peninsula, the Economic
Development Committee, the Advance Newport Center Economic
Opportunities Ad Hoc Committee, and the City- School Ad Hoc
Committee; and
Whereas, the City's Citizens' Advisory Committees consist of the
Environmental Quality Affairs Committee, the Harbor Quality Citizens
Advisory Committee, and the Youth Council; and
Whereas, the City Council wishes to continue the operations of
these citizen - involved committees while re- directing the Council's focus
away from standing City Council Committees and towards "study
sessions" of the full City Council; and
Whereas, the Council previously approved Resolutions #94 -110,
#94 -111, #94 -112, #94 -113, #95 -137, #96 -100, and #96 -101 which
created and /or modified the City's standing City Council Committees.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Newport Beach that it hereby reaffirms its appreciation for the
work done by the City's Boards and Commissions, Council /Citizens' Ad
• Hoc Advisory Committees, and Citizens' Advisory Committees; and
BE IT ALSO RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Newport
• Beach that the Council hereby repeals Resolutions #94 -110, #94 -111,
#94 -112, #94 -113, #95 -137, #96 -100, and #96 -101 and by doing so
disbands the City's five standing City Council Committees.

I, CATHY FISHER, Deputy City Clerk of the City of Newport Beach, California, do
hereby certify that the whole number of members of the City Council is seven; that the foregoing
resolution, being Resolution No. 98 -32, was duly and regularly introduced before and adopted by the
City Council of said City at a regular meeting of said Council, duly and regularly held on the 11th
day of May, 1998, and that the same was so passed and adopted by the following vote, to wit:
Ayes: Thomson, Debay, O'Neil, Glover, Noyes, Mayor Edwards
Noes: Hedges
Absent: None
Abstain: None
