RESOLUTION NO. 2005- 3 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF <br />THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH ESTABLISHING THE <br />NEWPORT BEACH /COSTA MESA /HUNTINGTON BEACH <br />BORDERS COMMITTEE <br />WHEREAS, the City of Newport Beach shares common borders with the <br />cities of Costa Mesa and Huntington Beach; and <br />WHEREAS, there are many issues which the cities have in common, and <br />in which what happens in one city could have an impact on one of the other <br />cities; and <br />WHEREAS, public safety calls for service often require public safety <br />employees from one city to provide service in another city; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Councils of the three cities desire to cooperate with <br />one another to work on issues of mutual concern; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of <br />Newport Beach as follows: <br />Section 1. The Newport Beach /Costa Mesa /Huntington Beach Borders <br />Committee is hereby established. <br />Section 2. The Committee shall be comprised of three (3) members of <br />the Newport Beach City Council, appointed by the Mayor. <br />Section 3. The duties of the Committee shall be as follows: <br />a. Share information regarding planning for annexation and <br />development in the border areas shared by the three cities; <br />b. Evaluate the potential impacts of such development on areas <br />including traffic, public safety, air travel demand, and parks and <br />recreation; and consider the possibility of joint efforts by the cities to <br />mitigate impacts; <br />C. Discuss other issues that may affect the border areas shared by the <br />cities; and <br />d. Report to each City Council on the progress and recommendations of <br />the Committee. <br />
