HomeMy WebLinkAbout2005-3 - Newport Beach-Costa Mesa-Huntington Beach Borders CommitteeRESOLUTION NO. 2005- 3 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH ESTABLISHING THE NEWPORT BEACH /COSTA MESA /HUNTINGTON BEACH BORDERS COMMITTEE WHEREAS, the City of Newport Beach shares common borders with the cities of Costa Mesa and Huntington Beach; and WHEREAS, there are many issues which the cities have in common, and in which what happens in one city could have an impact on one of the other cities; and WHEREAS, public safety calls for service often require public safety employees from one city to provide service in another city; and WHEREAS, the City Councils of the three cities desire to cooperate with one another to work on issues of mutual concern; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Newport Beach as follows: Section 1. The Newport Beach /Costa Mesa /Huntington Beach Borders Committee is hereby established. Section 2. The Committee shall be comprised of three (3) members of the Newport Beach City Council, appointed by the Mayor. Section 3. The duties of the Committee shall be as follows: a. Share information regarding planning for annexation and development in the border areas shared by the three cities; b. Evaluate the potential impacts of such development on areas including traffic, public safety, air travel demand, and parks and recreation; and consider the possibility of joint efforts by the cities to mitigate impacts; C. Discuss other issues that may affect the border areas shared by the cities; and d. Report to each City Council on the progress and recommendations of the Committee. Section 4. The Committee shall sunset on December 31, 2008, unless its term is extended by the City Council. ADOPTED this 11" day of January, 2005.
