RESOLUTION NO. 2005- 49 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH <br />ADOPTING A SIGN DESIGN GUIDELINES MANUAL FOR APPLICATION CITYWIDE <br />WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes that the City's present Sign Regulations, as <br />found in Chapter 20.67 of the Municipal Code of the City of Newport Beach, are <br />outdated and out of alignment with current standards for sign design, construction, and <br />community aesthetics; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Newport Beach City Council recognizes the City's extraordinary <br />setting and desires to protect and enhance the City's unique character and aesthetic <br />standards; as well as to protect public safety and property values, while promoting <br />tourism through enhanced aesthetic appeal, and <br />WHEREAS, the City Council finds that proper sign aesthetics are an important <br />governmental interest and therefore desires to provide Sign Design Guidelines to <br />implement its goals of achieving quality signage that preserves and enhances the <br />community's appearance, while still allowing sufficient business identification; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Council intends to provide each sign user an opportunity for <br />adequate identification while guarding against the excessive and confusing proliferation <br />of signs by appropriately regulating the time, place and manner under which signs may <br />be displayed; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Council further wishes to encourage the design of signs that are <br />complementary to the buildings and uses to which they relate and that are harmonious <br />with their surrounding; and <br />
