HomeMy WebLinkAbout86-60 - Demolition of Vacant DwellingsRESOLUTION NO. 86 -60 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH DECLARING THAT THE DEMOLITION OF VACANT DWELLINGS PURCHASED FOR THE WIDENING OF BALBOA BOULEVARD IS OF URGENT NECESSITY FOR THE PRESERVATION OF LIFE, HEALTH AND PROPERTY; AND THAT THE CONTRACT THEREFOR MAY BE LET WITHOUT ADVERTISING FOR FORMAL PUBLIC WORKS BIDS. WHEREAS, the City of Newport Beach intends to widen and make street improvements to Balboa Boulevard from 33rd Street to 44th Street; and WHEREAS, the City of Newport Beach has purchased dwellings along Balboa Boulevard to implement the widening of Balboa Boulevard from 33rd Street to 44th Street; and WHEREAS, the dwellings have been vacated; and WHEREAS, dwellings have been declared structurally unsafe, constitute a fire hazard and are otherwise dangerous to human life and health, and are a public nuisance and liability to the City; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Newport Beach that the demolition of vacant dwellings purchased for the widening of Balboa Boulevard is of urgent necessity for the preservation of life, health and property; and the contract therefor be let without advertising for formal public works bids.
